Newer cars usually have the wipers wait a second or two while the washer squirts water onto the windshield before the wipers start up. Then when you release the switch, the wipers will keep wiping for a few seconds after - how can I do that with the stock wiper motor and wiper switch, and an aftermarket washer button?

What is the make and model of your car ? Does your wiper motor park under the hood when it is turned off .

whoops. electrically similar to a 66 monaco and yes, it parks the wipers at the hood when off. It has the wiper switch where you rotate it to adjust the speed.

That is a fantastic idea. You might post it on some of the many hobbyist electronics forums, and someone will probably be able to draw a circuit for you. I don't think it would be that difficult. You might also check the stock wiring diagrams to see how the factory did it.

I think I might just stick the washer button next to the wiper knob so I can at least control it manually. But if I decide to go with a time delay relay, I've found a reasonably priced one, BU-510TD. The only thing is I don't know if the relay stays active for the set time, after power to the activation circuit is removed. Have sent an enquiry but haven't heard back yet.
Update: looks like that time delay relay also holds the main circuit on for the duration that you set it to as well.
