It looks rather classy on a formal. Is that center line molding a factory option? I think the car would look better without that.

Mine is a factory 2 piece installation. It has an aluminum base riveted on the doors and the rubber moulding slides in to the base.
 
I have seen those plenty of times back in the day.......I wondered then and I wonder why now.

That's what I was thinking also, that molding cuts the car in half....horizontally, I think it would look better without it.
