From what I've watched of 63-64 wagons, I'm not really surprised by that bidding, I am surprised that it didn't have a reserve, though.
IMHO the 64 is desired a little more over the 63, the trim styling is a little better.
It's a NY, not a Newport.
Hardtop body, not sedan style (maybe NYs are all that way?)
Great color, has the desirable bucket-style seats, 9 passenger, dual air, luggage rack.
Whether you like the wheels or not, they do add more appeal to someone with deep pockets, maybe not a Chrysler guy, that wants this car to look cool so his buddies will agree with his purchase.
Ones like this seem to go to the low-mid 20k in bidding from what I've seen. Sometimes they don't meet reserve.
The only thing I see that needs fixed is the tailpipes, having them out the back like that on a wagon with a roll-down window will allow exh fumes to enter the car.
