WTF - No wonder why people are complaining about poor quality cars!!!

Between contracts unions serve little purpose for their dues. So they end up devoting all their resources to defending the 10% of employees that are dirt bags. The other side of the coin is management probably has done nothing to hold them accountable for their work habits or performance over the years. So when the arbitator asks to see their dicipline history its clean. It makes it hard for the arbitrator to take away the career of a "honest hard working employee" who has only ever made one mistake.
 
Piss poor management that doesn't document bad and unacceptable behavior and performance have to be accountable for their lack of action. My experience with arbitrators (even with explicit documentation) is almost always a compromise in favor of the employee. And to top it off...I'm willing to bet that there was a sizeable retro back pay settlement for these autoworkers to boot for the 2 years they were sitting around drinking and getting high while waiting for their union to do the magic through the BS grievance and arbitration sham! Don't get me wrong...there is a place for unions that employees need union protection from scumbag companies. This is NOT one of the cases.

It was not inept management that allowed these scumbags to get their job back.

IT WAS AN APPOINTED ARBITER!
And that is the biggest crime right there...
 
No its not, drinking on the job has been going on for forever.... hiring them back and the fact that there are Unions still out there, that's unbelievable

I have never seen anyone drinking on the job anywhere I've ever worked....why even smelling like booze would get you fired in your shoes where you stood.
 
I used to drive the boss and his assistant to lunch at a local tavern everyday, since I dont drink I drove and he bought me lunch.

You would be surprised how far an alcoholic will go to drink 24/7. I had to fire one fellow because his 16 oz water bottle caught on fire on a test site....it was filled with Vodka.

Arbitrator... I myself think unions have had their place in the past, and have overreached so far that they are just another leach on society, as well as affirmative action and getting government checks and special treatment if you are even a small percentage Indian. I think they should wipe the slate clean and truly treat everyone as equals.

See above. More than 50% percentof the voting public made sure of that a few weeks ago. You guys need to wake up and smell the coffee. They don't want equality out there. People want to be hyphenated Americans....ex: "Irish" America, or "Japanese" American, or "African" American...and on and on. As far as Im concerenex There is only "American" but as long as people vote for that there will never be equality.

May want to turn down the heat in that Jacuzzi a little bit. The guess the "idea" is that all folks are considered to be equal....but does not always turn out that way.

Uh that's because the national government is the union in socialist scenarios. Purty simple.

The old man has been a teamster all my life, and while he a a nice cushy job now, the unions really did gain him nothing. He could have done better job hopping and making something for himself. But, that's how they sucker you, making you believe you can't do it on your own.

What happens to all that money you pay in as "union dues"???? Which is not just a drop in the bucket as far as one's paycheck is concerned.
 
Well..... It's will be a moot point soon with the new "right to work" bill just signed... It will be a union breaker.

And if you think that getting high on the job is new..... I have a 68 "fuselage" for sale.... Drinking on the job is a product of production work... has always been there and likely won't stop anytime soon.
