I talked to the owner today and he said it was made in 1948

I can't recall for sure but I think he said it was like 32,000 lbs or something

That is really neat. I could surfpics of industrial machinery all day and not having enough.
Were you at the machine shop??

That is an amazing machine....Can't imagine what they would machine on that thing...but I bet it was cool as all hell though!

Could you imagine the whirls of metal coming off that thing? It would be a friggin forest of razor wire around it!

Very big gun barrels.

Funny you should say that Matt. I delivered the contents of a 40' container to a German company in Toledo back in the mid 80's that had a lath in that building that had 3 bridges between the Chuck and the Collit that they told me was built in 1939 in the Fatherland for the coming war. Anybody ever hear of ah few howitzers that the Nazis had that they called Big Ben that were mounted on Rail Road Carz? That'z what these guyz told me, I'm just passin' it on, Jer

I see a lot of machine tools like that in my travels. I don't take pictures as that is usually frowned upon. One place had about a half dozen lathes that size and bigger. BTW, Monarch is still in business just south of me in Cortland, NY.

The largest machine tool I've seen was a gantry type machining center that was large enough to drive a tractor trailer on to the table. It impressed me... and it takes a lot....

Are you talking about Anzio Annie??? It was at Aberdeen Proving Ground until a year ago. It's been moved to Ft. Lee, Va now.
