1968 Plymouth Fury Texas Highway Patrol

Question:

Both build sheet and fender tag very clearly read "9C" for the tire size. Does this mean anything to anyone? Possible it was meant to be "96", and there was coincidentally a mistake on both the sheet and tag?

If actually "96", I can't recall ever seeing a Red Streak tire on a police car...But I guess in this case it would have to be correct?

I couldn't find any reference to "9C" in my fleet buyers book. "96" is for G70x15 Red Streak Tires

2.71 SureGrip? With a 440 could be the tires for high speed pursuit? The Pennsylvania State Police cars were painted dark blue and gold. They were referred to as "Sunoco Specials"! 383 4 barrel cars. The Philadelphia cars were police red.

9C is a Special Order Tire. You won't find any reference to what it was in the Code Books. Most likely a Pursuit Rated 15" Tire.

Not sure what size Texas used in 68...

Up to 1969 the CHP cars had 8.55-15 Bluestreak Police Special Polyglas, in 1970 this tire unchanged was labeled H-78.
These were a six-ply tire. Goodyear was nice enough to dig up a picture of the tire from their archives.

That's great info, Thanks guys.

Pulled the instrument cluster today to investigate the oil gauge. It has two different part numbers on the face:

KS- 65287
2836091

A quick search turns up nothing. Not listed in the '68 parts book I have, BUT another TX Highway Patrol '68 Fury I've seen has this gauge in it as well.

Those hub caps were "Police (or Taxi) specific". In NYC we had them on the 62 Dodge Darts, 65, 67-68 Fury I's. Oddly enough the 60 Dodge Darts, 61, 63-64 Plymouth Savoys used conventional wheels with "bumps to hold on the hubcaps (I think they were 14"). My theory is that Chrysler did not make a 15" wheel with "bumps" until 1969. In 1969 the 15" wheel cars with dog dish caps had the smaller caps. I bought a set of 15" wheels for the larger caps but I think they are from a Rambler. I have a 62 parts book that only lists 15" wheels as the HD wheel. I bought a set of wheels like those pictured for my 62 Dodge Police Car recreation that came off a 56 Desoto. I am looking for clips if anyone has them.

That's a 62 Dodge Dart NYPD RMP. It has the clip on hub caps. The blue wheel is a wheel I have with clips, the black wheel does not have clips. It appears to be "more heavy duty" than the blue wheel. I have 4 of the black wheels that came off a 56 Desoto. I am looking for another wheel like the black one and 20 clips.

Does anyone have a C body with the Kelsey Hayes disc brakes? Those are 15" wheels. What does that wheel look like? I had a 67 Monaco years ago with Disc brakes but don't remember what the wheel looked liked.

Was pulling wiring harnesses to be redone today, and thought I should take a few pics of the talked about - but rarely seen - Police/Taxi/Fleet factory bulkhead connector bypass. Someone had already made a repair on one of the terminals at the ammeter in my car, but it is otherwise original.

Wires are molded into their grommet. No part numbers present. Cannot find in the catalog (if it's even in there). Pictured installed and out of the car for your viewing pleasure.

Definitely original, that block had a thread cap (mine is brittle).
