Broadcast sheet FOUND, but...

With the temps in the upper 90's this past weekend, I decided to do something on the 65 Sport Fury thatwould not take a lot of exertion. I looked for the broadcast sheet being pretty sure it would be eaten up by vermin. I was right.

It was in the back of the back seat.I'm not going to try and decode it, but I do have a couple of concerns. There is nothing on it that I can see that relates it tothe car. The VIN is not on it and there is one item that does not match the fender tag. Under 'Paint Style' is WW1 which I assume means it is all white. The fender tag has BB1, all black and does match the color of the car, including under the door cards.
The interior codes do match the fender tag. Both are P4R.

This car was abandoned by the owner well over 40 years ago and there is nothing to show it is not original paint, along with everything else. The rest of the codes on the fender tag do match what is on the car.

So my questions...
Is the broadcast sheet suppose to have the VIN on it?
Or is the Shipping Number suppose to match the Sequence Number on the Fender Tag?
How do I confirm the sheet to the car?

No VIN on a 65 broadcast sheet. Back when they were built, when a couple of cars came down the line all calling for a interior, the workers just grabbed a piece of red seat and stuck it in. Why bother to look at the tag? They're all red, right . . . ?

Agree with what could happen in the plant. Seat items were pulled by "look" rather than by sequence numbers. That is how cars got the wrong build sheets. Might check under the front seat?

Compare the SO number on the sheet 04944 to the tag 04501. They do not match meaning this sheet is not for this car.

Yes. I noticed that as well, but it seems odd that, other than the paint, other items do match the car. Plus, I'm not convinced those two numbers are referring to the same thing.

I think I will just assume the wrong seat back was installed at the factory. I will be painting it Black.

And I did check under the other seats. All I found were the production tags. Looked under the carpets and nothing there either. Have not removed the center console but that will have to wait for another day.

Not odd at all but that’s irrelevant to what’s in front of us.

Both have P4R interiors and that’s all the guy on the line cared about. He didn’t care about anything else, what matched or didn’t. His job was to grab a seat for P4R interior off the pile and put it in a car that was supposed to have a P4R interior. He did his job that day.

Those two numbers are both SO numbers for two different cars. The B19 SPD portion of both the SO’s match; the rest does not.

Based on information from these two sources and other '65 Sport Fury Production Broadcast's a reasonable facsimile Car Production Broadcast might be fabricated. I have prepared a 1965 Car Production Broadcast form in MS Excel and would be glad to plug in numbers and letters you would like to see and post or send you a copy. The attached sample has all the boxes filled and the attached example is a good one of a similar car.

There is no indication the Sales Order number, and later VONs, have anything to do at all with production or production sequence. There is absolutely no reason to build anything in a sequence order. There's no data that suggests ALL SO numerous in a sequence are assigned on any given SPD. The numbers could skip. We presume the series started over the next day with the change in SPD but it takes a boat load of daily data (AMHIK) to prove that.

The SO and VONs are administrative functions used for order tracking, billing and other administrative functions.

It is common in that era that different makes have different first numbers of SOs. For example, one of the standard SO prefixes for '65 full-size Plymouths is 04. This is one way that different makes and models are accounted for in invoicing. Typically low numbers like 00 indicate low cost low and trim low on the corporate totem pole Valiants and Barracudas, and escalate up through the other A and B bodies culminating in 12*** SO for a '65 Chrysler and 14*** for a '65 Imperial. The higher up the corporate pricing structure, the higher the SO prefix. Special circumstances (dealer demos, special orders, etc. trigger non standard SOs. That's one heads up for a specialty built car.

For makes and models built at more than one plant, the SO prefixes are the same regardless of plant. B body Plymouths built at Lynch Road, St. Louis and LA all have he same prefix. So there is no basis that the prefix has anything to do with an area within a plant.

The only thing that gives us relative position of assembly order between two cars are comparing broadcast sheets, for plants that used this type of BS sequencing, OR door stickers that show assembly date. SO/VONs and VINs are not intended to nor show us production sequence.

My narrow niche is decoding fender tags, not Production Broadcast sheets. So I used Copilot, Microsoft AI, to find some sources to decode these sheets. The response was good and is pasted here. Let me know if you want me to try and decode the data you sent? I can do much of it and create a complete sheet for you. Or do you want to take a stab at it? Have you already sent me a picture of your fender tag? Sorry, I have so many balls up in the air I lose track. More on your questions above in a separate response. With missing data 611-619, does your car have any of the equipment shown in that area: undercoat through padded sun visor?

The car does not have ac.
I am pretty sure the sheet does not match my car. I am just going to assume that because the seat was red, it got thrown in during assembly. The fender tag says BB1 and it is, so that is what it will be.
It is fun investigating the history of the car and you and this group are an excellent resource.
The only other item I might be able to track is the original dealer badge screwed into the trunk. Doubt very much if that will get me any info but who knows.

Research does not support your personal interpretation of the SO number nor how Chrysler applied it.

There is NO evidence the SO has anything to do with production. It serves an administrative function as evidenced by its use on invoices, ADSNs, shipping documents and correspondence with dealers.

Your belief that the SO number is related to production is negated by the use of Special Order, Lease, built for X and other specialty SOs as assigned that are administrative in function. Both interpretations of the SO cannot be true. Only one is documented.

Thank you for posting. I learn from each example, PBS mixup is not rare. Just glad so many that are for the right car. are found. Once in a great while a complete set of data is found--PBS, fender tag and Chrysler Corp IBM build card. All prepared by a string of humans so, err's are found and must be forgiven.
