On my 67 383, it has a TRW steering pump. It seems to have a random issue where if I do a sharp turn, when straightening the wheels there's a roll of the dice that the steering gets super hard to turn, as if it's lost power steering. Seems to happen around 700-1000 rpm or so, but I think it's also happened at higher rpms too. Usually I'm too focused on trying to straighten out the car during this period to try goosing the gas pedal to see if that fixes it. I suspect it's the pressure relief valve judging by a thread someone else had where his steering wheel seemed to get stuck at 3000 rpm or so and it wasn't fixed till he changed that valve, and also because my issue seems to happen regardless of engine rpm. I doubt it's the steering box because it was recently reconditioned by Firm Feel.
Anyone know the part number for it? Or should I just go to the Federal pump? Hoping it uses the same inverted flare fitting on the pump as the TRW one so I can keep the same hose.

That kind of sounds like air in the system. I had a similar experience with my Barracuda after a pump rebuild. Turned out to be the return hose had a very small leak. It was just enough to suck some air in.

I think I actually saw your post about that. It's got a new return hose but I think the spring clamp I've currently got on it might not be strong enough. Getting my radiator cleaned out at the moment so will be a few days before I can test it again...

I've tried to use spring clamps in the past and they just don't work out. The original stuff worked OK when it was relatively new. The repop spring clamps that I've used either leak or fail miserably. Older OE clamps loose their tension after 40-50 years.

These were a cheap chinese set I got off ebay for random purposes. They're not too bad all things considered, but I think the size I used is just too loose for the hose I've got them on. Unfortunately the next size down is just too small...
I need to go snooping around in my stash of toyota clamps, hoping I have a size that'll work. I really like the toyota spring clamps, they're pretty overbuilt and at least for the small ones where they seem to have an extra reinforcement layer of steel, they seem to last a very long time, if not forever.
