Headlight switch

1965 Chrysler New Yorker

I'm noticing some funky things going on with my lights so I took a peek at my headlight switch from under the dash and I noticed some corrosion and wear on the switch. I'm thinking about replacing with a switch from Rock Auto, but I can't figure out how to get the darn thing disconnected and pulled out of the dash without breaking knobs and causing more work. Any thoughts?

On the bottom of the switch (under the dash) is a 'button'. You push this in and this allows the know to be pulled completely out of the switch. You may need to wiggle it some to get it to release but that is how the knob/shaft comes out. Then you unscrew a chrome piece from around where the knob goe in and this releases the switch form the dash. I would send pictures but I am at work and don't have access.

badvert has got it, the "Button" is a little spring loaded silver knob and is found on the opposite side to the plug terminals, push it all the way in and yes pull on the knob, it will come straight out altogether with the shaft. The chrome nut is on the front of the dash where the knob went in, once you have that undone the switch assembly will come away and you can pull the plug off. Voila!
