WhenTF did they take away the ACC position on the Ignition switch???

Start younger.
I started when I was 20. Fortunately air ride suspension, floating cabs, improved seats with anti-slap eventually came along. Unfortunately the damage was already done. All they did was let me survive long enough to retire.

Had anti-slap not come along I'd be paralyzed now.

My seat is on the floor (no air in the bag) and all the way back, till it hits rear of cab, which is why most tall guys are not fond of old Pete's. The cab of any full size PU is bigger than the cab on my 359 but mine looks cooler, it is about the same size as a s-10, ranger, old SR5 toyotas, so the anti slap seat only works on the worst thank god for longer wheelbase's

Dave, I drove one of these for a long time. I feel your (back) pain...:(
You had to get out just to change your mind.

I put some miles on one of those just a couple years newer with a gas engine 345, 2 speed rear in a straight truck/bobtail.

My Mother had a 62' chevy, and drove it for years with no key,as she had lost it. They will start without one.
I had a 62 buick lesabre and remember taking the key out with engine running. turn it off and you could start it without key as long as you didn't turn the key all the way to off position. I remember someone telling me that way you could let someone use your car without leaving them the key so you could lock your glove box and trunk. I started thinking who the hell would lend their car to someone you couldn't trust in the first place. anyhow that's what I heard.

He has his thumb in the correct position too.... That keeps you from it getting broken if it kicks back.
Never...ever..wrap your thumb over the top of the crank! The smaller the engine the worse it kicks back. Same with no power steering tractors steering wheels, hook your thumb on the inside, gee your dumb. Break it clean off.

i know how you feel. i just bought an 09 silverado. basic truck- crank windows, rubber floor mat etc. just what i was looking for. i had to read the manual to figure out the acc position. i had an 84 cougar that didn't have a key. turn the switch and go.

Same thing with military trucks. Especially M35 and M54 series trucks.

i had 85 bonneville that the previous owner lost the keys for. he broke the column apart and when i asked him for the keys ,he handed me a rusty flat head screwdriver.

No smart key detected is a scary message on the screen in my 2011 Edge. It comes up randomly but always starts. Powered by Microsoft so go figure. Learned a lot from this thread. My ***** with no acc position is having to start the Edge to roll up the windows. Owners manual? Is that like instructions for an Ikea table?

Stealing a car was so freaking easy.... WTH happened?
Still easy... any tow truck can make it gone from almost anywhere. Thieves usually know to cut GPS antenna to prevent tracking and like shipping containers for storage. The quick score ones will pick one off right off the dealer's service drive or valet stand... keys make it easier.

Maybe the best I heard, about 15 years ago the local Ferrari dealer lost one on a test drive. The "customer" lit the tires at speed a couple miles from the dealer and acted shook up, asked the salesman to drive it back... salesman got out and car disappeared. The dumbass hadn't secured the "customer's" license so they had no ID just a fake name and description.

Just need to unplug the brown wire to the starter relay and the car won't start. I also unplug one of the wires going to the ballast resistor. Best anti-theft strategy yet.

My dad worked on those truck for over 17 years back in the day for Irving Oil. Loadstar 1600 was the model IIRC. The Home Delivery single axle furnace oil trucks had the gas 345 or 392.The 1700 and 1800 Loadstar series tandems and tractors were diesels.

Like everything else, it's higher tech. If you can defeat the ignition, a junkyard ECM with a key taped to it works. Funniest thing is, motor coaches worth north of 500k still use a $20 ignition, that you could jump with cigarette pack tinfoil, if you were so inclined.

Now this is really cool. I found a pic of one of the actual Internationals I drove.
Damn, I remember this P.O.S. like it was last week.
This should have been around 1973...
