Car will not idle

I just got my new car today. 383 4 barrel! Even though it's a 2 barrel according to the VIN.

Anyway, there is lots to do, but the most pressing problem is that it won't idle. It runs well, but you have to drive with two feet or it will die if you let off the gas. I'm by myself today, so no fiddling with the carb.

First thoughts? Seller says it ran fine last week, and I put lots of fresh gas in it.

First thought...The fresh gas stirred up the sediment. Frank, check your fuel filter and then on to the entire fuel delivery system, tank to carburetor.

now the sediment's in your idle circuits or could be a vacuum leak.

It might be something as simple as the idle speed is set too low.

It did it right off the truck. That's why I put gas in it. It hasn't been an unused car anyway.

I found the electrical connector "plug" and fixed that...found another big nipple (open) near the choke on top of the carb, and plugged that...and replaced the fuel filter. No change.

Please elaborate on WTF? It could mean so many things.

There's a lot going on there.

First thing that jumps out. The trans linkage has to be hooked up. You'll smoke the transmission if you drive it and it won't shift worth a crap.

What kind of carb is that? The linkage seems easy to connect. It operated freely down the back of the engine to the trans, so I think it's all there.

Yes. Yes it is. I don't think the engine has suffered from over-restoration.

whats the vin#? whats the fender tag?

single pot MC change to dual pot MC should be high on the list

The car is a 2 barrel per the VIN, but it has a Mopar 4 barrel intake. And the carb. If it's not right, it looks a lot like an Edelbrock.

Looks like an Edelbrock 4bbl carb to me.

I had one of those on a 66 Cadillac I had. Looks similar, but older. What is the correct stock carb for this car?

a 2bbl carter / Stromberg type of thing, if it was a 2bbl.

those headers would not be on a 2bbl motor I don't think.

whats the vin? whats the fender tag?

Looks like a old competition series, like the ford meets Mopar throttle extention you will need to get adapter for throttle and kickdown linkage and connect electric choke.
