Identifying electronic component

I hope some of the electronic cracks can help me identifying this electronic component.

Unfortunately, it broke in two and I need a replacement. It's written "680 ML" on it. Is this just a simple resistor?

I thought that and ordered some 680 ohm resistors, but now when I see the size of them, I doubt that this small round piece on the motor is a 680 ohm resistor.

What is it and what purpose serves it on there? I don't understand that either.

Kidding aside, it may be a capacitive start motor.

I don't know much about all this electric stuff, so I have to ask. What does a capacitive start motor do?

Looks like a disc type capacitor to me too. Non polarized. Google the part # for a replacement size. Non polarized caps like this don't always print the exact info on them.

The spare motor I have shows a "CD 680K" on it. Maybe that helps.

680K leads more to a resistor, right?!

No it's more like a disc type capacitor, you're right. But there are so many units of measurement.

The 680 could mean pF up to F. Is there a way to calculate this?

Why do you need a new one? The old paper capacitors go bad after years, but one like this isn't going to be bad.

Chances are that's just there to reduce radio interference.

Similar to a condenser on a points ignition system. I think it saves the contacts on the sequential switch that motor drives as well.

I need a new one because this one is split in half. You can see that in the second picture.

So the last question to solve would be the units of measurement for the 680.

Thanks everybody! I ordered 68 pF disc type capacitors! They are ridiculously cheap. I payed 50 cents for 30 capacitors. And $3 for shipping .

What a refreshing experience to buy that cheap parts for this car

And once again I'm stoked about the knowledge and helpfulness on this forum! On the German Mopar forum I would've probably been flamed for 3 days and then left without an answer.
