i am no engineer, planner,driver but standing there waisting over 2 hrs watching at this yesterday. if the front set of stationary wheels were steer in like the back set would that have made the turn easier?

There's a member here (can't remember who) who pilots these kind of insane loads.
Maybe he can give us his take on this fustercluck.

They definitely miscalculated the turning radii of that combination vs available real estate when they did the route survey. That's assuming of course that they actually did one. All that stuff like surveys and engineering costs money so companies will cut corners to either get the work or to pad the bottom line.

If our outfit did that move there would be an engineered drawing of that intersection with all the obstacles and turning radii.

If there were no obstacles on the inside of the corner and you had the ground clearance, you'd just hang the load across the ditch and steer the back end around the corner.

I'm 200' overall here with the trailer stretched out to about 150' going around a similar corner without all the obstructions. We stopped, steered the trailer hard left and backed up about 20' feet which swung the tail at least that far back and to the right. closer to the intersection. Stopped at the far shoulder, steered hard left and finished going around the corner.

Nooteboom trailers are pretty cool.

Video of one of ours in action. I think there are a couple in a row here moving a blade mold.

We got only up till 1:23, as the wife has to walk the dog now. :D

Just burned up an afternoon, what an amazing guy and what a neat visit to years gone by. Brought back a lot of memories of the the crazy *** things we used to do back in the 60's. It truly was a different world back then.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:
