I am considering tearing apart an electronic tach and modifying the clock blank to install the tach directly into the dash using the blanking plate as the background for the tach needle...anyone done this? It only means modifying the blanking plate....

Someone has done a similar thing. You should be able to find it using the search.

great way to make use of an otherwise "un-useful" part of the original dash - it will LOOK nice, too.

Which tach are you going to be using? I would like to do the same project

thanks...for once I hadnt actually done a search first....I dont know which tach I would be using yet...just starting to look into this.

You could try this 2-3/4 tach or any of the generic 2" (52mm) tachs. For a clear faceplate you could use these trading card boxes. You would have to get creative with the mounting. Ive been working on this also after reviewing the threads listed. It much easier if you just want to put an entire tach in and not try to match the 180 sweep originals.
