I do know more than I care to share, there may be aspects of these transactions that the seller/buyer may not want shared.

Mine has a few minor differences, cage and body side trim is different (mid year change)

Correct, that one would not mount unless you moved one of the brackets.
Even if you drilled a new hole in the fender the can would hit the top of the fender.

The problem with most of the ones you find out there is the mounting ears are different. I hate to say it but you might be looking for a C-Body specific part.
You would think after tearing down 2 different cars I'd have better pictures.

Short of a record of maintenance with odometer readings it would be hard to tell.
I had a low mile 80,000 Valiant that the owner wrote the milage down on the Owners manual cover for all the servicing's
Service receipts often show odometer readings.
A well cared for 100,000 car can look new...
I don't think they ever used silver, maybe in the 90s, I think the original that had a tin cap faded to silver.
Not sure why the silver repos exist other than people like them.
