1. Remove the box. 2. Find the leak 3. Determine if YOU can repair the leak or NOT. 4. Either repair it yourself, or hire another party to do it for you. 5. You MIGHT want to just replace the steering gear box. Its all a question of time and money; how much do you have?

The angled front edge of that upholstery suggests not-comfortable. I get that's not the purpose of it, that it's a conversation piece. In which case, I'm sure $6500 could get you 2 such pieces with just a little effort.
