    Crabby Newport update

Wow, that's great info. Thanks, been using the car a bit more but avoiding short runs. Thinking of swaping out points for electronic, just seems like a better idea all around. Chose the AC plugs over the Champion j14y. Next plug change I'll use NGKs. Been running ACs since this cars revival...

    Headlight switch gone bad ?

Hi Everyone, Had my 65 Newport out last night. Wanted to turn on interior light. Rotated knob, felt it click but no lights came on. Here's what I noted. All exterior lights work. Dash lights work, ashtrays too. Adjustment for dimming works. Maplight is ok using switch on dash. Interior...

    Crabby Newport update

Tried to upload one, couldn't do it. Tried a couple times. But it's a white 2 Dr, red interior. Bailed out of a junkyard 12 yrs ago. Tried again, says file too big for server?

    Crabby Newport update

Hello again, Thanks for all the input from you folks out there. My 65 Newport was struggling, popping through the carb and running rough. On, I believe, Big John's suggestion I kept it simple, found a few seriously fouled plugs. I put in new AC plugs and also changed the coil. It started up...

    Crabby old Newport

    Crabby old Newport

Thanks for that ! I appreciate all the input a lot but I agree, keep it simple for the moment, do the plugs and drive it. I would like to upgrade the ignition for sure. I tend to assume the worst on occasion as well . This car was literally in a small junkyard and a complete mess when I...

    Crabby old Newport

Seems I've opened a can of worms here. I will take closer look at the points, condenser. It's been a while since these where changed but I haven't put a lot of miles on it. Timing chain sounds scary, as I know the motor is original, untouched. But listening at the tail pipe it sounds fine...

    Crabby old Newport

Also, the ignition is original, points, etc. Did check cap looked decent. Don't think it's crossed plug wires, car was fine until recently. Carb rebuilt by a specialist, I'd recommend to anyone. Hoping it's just the plugs. I do drive it easy and it tends to get around town type of drives...

    Crabby old Newport

Many thanks everyone ! I pulled a couple plugs, really fouled out. Going to get new ones and possibly change the coil. The motor has not been rebuilt. Unknown miles but original to the car. Doesn't use oil, runs well considering it was a junkyard escapee. Gas reasonably fresh

    Crabby old Newport

Hey Folks, I asked a couple weeks ago about my 65 Newport. It was at my friends body for about a month. He was having a lot of trouble starting it. Got the car back and it does have something wrong with it. Hard cold starting, once running it's OK. However now it has a popping type noise...

    Cold hard starting

Wow, great info I will check out the air cleaner for sure. The carb guy is a specialist and knew about the warping. He used 2 gaskets to compensate and really made a huge difference, although I occasionally snug the screws. Don't know why they seem to back off but they do. Overall the carb...

    Cold hard starting

A few days, sometimes a week at most I found that a few pumps of the pedal, cranking and waiting then trying again gets it going. The car has been at a friend's body shop for a couple weeks (door dings...)and he's been having trouble with it. Might be loading up too just moving it around...

    Cold hard starting

Hello all I have a 65 Newport with a 2 barrel Bendix Stromberg carb. It's been rebuilt by a very good carb guy. Since the rebuild it's been fine but lately having trouble starting after sitting. Don't drive the car everyday but it hasn't given me trouble before. Once warmed up it's fine...

    Trovit for car search

Hello everyone, Just a question to see if anyone has searched or tried to contact a seller using Trovit. I searched for a 60 Plymouth, continue getting email from Trovit with cars for sale. I emailed a seller about a car several times. I get "message sent successfully" but never a response...

One project leads to another ?

Hello everyone, I was checking out replacing the transmission lines on my 65 Newport the other day. While under there I noticed a rubber boot on the torsion bar had separated from its place. Its right where the bar goes into the mount. Figure I'll clean out the grease put fresh in best I...
