I put air shocks in my 66 Polara to compensate for the flat leaf springs.

I'm having my mechanic do it. I did the fronts but that looked like a piece of cake compared to the backs.

Came with bearings, races and collars.

Never mind. I just received the bearings in the mail and the collars come with them.

Anybody got a part number for the collar that goes on the axle shaft? Application is a 66 Polara sedan (318 Poly) with Drum brakes.

Changed the oil in the diff and no improvement. Was hoping for an easy fix. No such luck.

Saturday's job: drain and replace oil in Diff with fingers crossed.

I had a bad O-ring in the control valve that leads to low pressure return. Was able to swap it out with gearbox in car.

I only notice it at higher speeds. 40+. No vibration. Just the droning. The faster I go the louder it gets.

Duh. I'm going to answer my own question. I really am a newb. In picture 3 the seal has been driven way too far into the hub. The rubber was making contact with the bearing and that's why I'm going on my third set of seals in a week. I feel like a dummy.

By slop do you mean the play that I mentioned? Well that would make sense. So then let me ask you a question. In picture 3 there is a "valley" between the wheel hub and the flange on the seal. Is this in too far? Should the "shoulder" of the seal be flush with the edge of the wheel hub? That...

Well the rubber is only on one side. I don't see a spring but that doesn't mean there isn't one in there. I'm thinking the reason the rubber burned up was because the seal wasn't seated properly. On the other side, the seal was intact.
