15" Wheel Swap for 1966 Polara

My current tires, which I hate because I ordered them hastily and don't have the white walls, are 215/75R14. I tried the portawall white wall add-ons and they pretty much suck. The FSM says the tires should be 8.25" which is 209.55mm. The question is how wide can I go with my tires. You...

15" Wheel Swap for 1966 Polara

Hi fellers, I'm thinking about chucking my 14" wheels for 15" wheels. For one thing it's getting harder and harder to find 14" tires. For another my wheels are in pretty bad shape. Wheel covers won't stay on tight, I have to constantly nudge them back into place to keep them from working their...

    Droning from rear

I'm having my mechanic do it. I did the fronts but that looked like a piece of cake compared to the backs.

    Rear Axle Shaft Collar

Anybody got a part number for the collar that goes on the axle shaft? Application is a 66 Polara sedan (318 Poly) with Drum brakes.

    Droning from rear

It's not high pitched. But when I first started hearing it I thought the car wasn't shifting out of 2nd because it gets louder as you go faster, I assumed it was the engine revving. A quick test by manually downshifting to 2nd under the correct conditions (slowing down on expressway offramp)...

    Replacing Power Steering Box Seals

I had a bad O-ring in the control valve that leads to low pressure return. Was able to swap it out with gearbox in car.

    Droning from rear

I only notice it at higher speeds. 40+. No vibration. Just the droning. The faster I go the louder it gets.

    Droning from rear

Been getting louder recently or perhaps I've just noticed it more recently. Rear axle bearings? Differential?

    Last call for help

Duh. I'm going to answer my own question. I really am a newb. In picture 3 the seal has been driven way too far into the hub. The rubber was making contact with the bearing and that's why I'm going on my third set of seals in a week. I feel like a dummy.

By slop do you mean the play that I mentioned? Well that would make sense. So then let me ask you a question. In picture 3 there is a "valley" between the wheel hub and the flange on the seal. Is this in too far? Should the "shoulder" of the seal be flush with the edge of the wheel hub? That...

Thanks guys. I put them in like picture 3. Sure is a B!t(h to get them in straight. Even with the seal driver.

Well the rubber is only on one side. I don't see a spring but that doesn't mean there isn't one in there. I'm thinking the reason the rubber burned up was because the seal wasn't seated properly. On the other side, the seal was intact.

    Last call for help

OK. So I'm starting another thread about my inner wheel bearings and the grease seals. I really need to make a call on this tonight. As a refresher, I took the front drums off to have them turned. The machinist tapped out the inner bearings and seals and I didn't note the orientation. The seals...

Question, Inner wheel bearings and seals

Ok. So I'm finally home after being away several days. Let's take a vote shall we? Majority wins. It's only my life that's literally riding on the outcome. Two different angles of the two set-ups. Right side is: Seal rubber toward bearing and flange side of seal toward backing plate on car...
