Your thoughts on paint color change 1966 Imperial convertible

First, it’s your car. If you are not concerned with reselling price, do it the way you want to. That being said- if you do consider actual resrll value- keep it original. Imperials owners are sticklers for originality, and will take off money for non factory regardless of how perfect it is...

Latest update... I drove her for the first time Friday! Pretty sure its been at least 40 years since it was on the road, given no inspection stickers of any kind on it. Runs great, shifts well, floats like she should. Next steps are interior, then the body/paint.

Engine's back in place, getting things buttoned up under the hood (still awaiting a few trinkets), and putting the hood back on - then it's on to the interior and body/paint.

OK - newest pics - Painted engine bay, blacked out grille area. Front end and brakes/lines are done. Transmission, brake lines, and driveshaft assembly is back in. Heater box is back in... Next up is the restored booster and master, and various wire harnesses and misc before the engine goes back...

1966 Imperial - Cruiser after 30 years in barn

Cool story. I fell into mine when a friend needed a place to park it. Eventually he offered it to me. My "go through it" is going a bit further but the goal is the same: something clean and pretty that can do parades and cruising. Good luck with it, and hope to see the pics...

Update... engine bay and underside of hood are resprayed. Front end parts are ready for new wear items once the orders arrive. HVAC box is all done. Just a few things to clean and paint and the front end and driveline go back in... pics to follow.

    HVAC box question...

Thanks, but it’s a ,66 Imperial with AC and this is the section that’s in the engine bay. It’s nothing like what that kit is designed for. From what I can see the Imperial has nothing in common with that.

    HVAC box question...

That’s what I was thinking to use... Thanks!

    HVAC box question...

So my ‘66 has had a few repairs on it, including some HVAC work on the heater box. It’s sealed with some gaskets, some various silicones, and some sort of white putty that’s really soft but kind of waxy. What is that white stuff? What can I use in its place?

Just to get this back on my car... lol Rear brakes are workable until I find a drum or two, rear suspension is all done. Fuel tank and lines are set. Transmissions been serviced. Moving on to prepping the engine bay for repainting.

Source for axle control leaf bushings - 66 Imperial?

Lots of spending, not much enjoying yet but at least there’s forward progress... next steps are brakes and working forward to the transmission... Here’s the axle installed- it uses shims under the frame brackets to set pinion angle. Pretty cool- and i’d imagine this car launches dead flat. I...

Source for axle control leaf bushings - 66 Imperial?

Here’s the rear- I’ll assemble the whole deal and snap a pic when I get to that part.

Source for axle control leaf bushings - 66 Imperial?

These are anti axle windup springs. They are Imperial only, as the rear axle case and the body itself has to have the brackets and mounting points for the springs. It wouldn't be easily doable at a dealer. You'd have to fabricate a bunch. I've never seen them on C bodies or wagons, but my...

Update - re-arranged the garage to fit it - but she's inside. I can only work on one end or side at a time but it's in. Rear axle's going back in, new leaf springs, new shocks, new stainless lines, all new brakes and hydraulics, all detailed. Fuel tank's getting cleaned and some stuff's coming...

Source for axle control leaf bushings - 66 Imperial?

So I can't find a picture in my manual - but I'm looking for a source for replacement bushings for the forward-mounting leaf springs that control axle wind on the Imperials. The seat in a bracket on top of the axle, and a bracket on the floorpan (under body). Looks like they press in like the...
