Finally getting my ‘77 Royal Monaco on the road and discovering all the quirks.

My speedo is going completely nuts. Pegging at 140, bouncing like crazy, etc.

I know this is usually the cable binding, but with the cruise, it looks like two separate cables?

One from the trans to the cruise unit, and one from the unit to the speedo?

Anyone encounter this?

There is a return spring on the speedo needle that returns it back to zero after the magnetic coupler causes the needle to rise. Most likely this spring in your speedo is broken.

On the input side of the transducer, unscrew the cable housing from the transducer, pull the cable out of the housing about 1-1.5" and slowly turn the cable in the housing. Does it turn smoothly? The reason for pulling it out slightly is to get it disengaged from the speedometer driven gear in the transmission. When done, slowly turn and push the cable back into the housing, when it gets re-indexed with the driven gear, it will stop turning. Push it all the way in from there.

On the output side of the transducer, you can do the same without pulling the cable out of the housing.

I kind of doubt it would be in the cruise transducer as there might be a set of governor weights in there. A bit hard to gert them to change speeds quickly, I suspect.

Just some thoughts,
