You need a new perspective to see the beauty in the 61 Plymouth.
Absolutely stunning in my opinion.
Just as one example:
Look at how a crease line exits out of the headlights and is swept straight back like a jet's trail.
I could go on and on about details of this car. This is car art, man.

This car looks like a custom, or perhaps a concept car. The original flavor has been maintained but not a production version.... I like it.... A lot.

I agree..... That era of Chrysler styling is pure art, and it carries through to the interiors too.

Yes. I wouldn't admit it either....
FWIW, I bought a Boat Tail.......
NEW! A leftover '72 in 1973. A 24 YO kid ridin like a pimp.

Twin to this one:

Bill Mitchell's pet projects were often a tad too flamboyant to me, boattail Riviera included. He occassionally dressed the same way.

First series Rivieras are among the best designs in US car history though.

I can see a couple of pleasant branches in it. But I grew up in quite a different surrounding, where manufacturers designed in different scales and while using US design elements they did so in a restrained way, so not everything grows on you the same way as if you've been brought up in the US. Guess that's why I generally prefer the more basic models over the luxury ones like a 55 Chevy 150 or 210 over the Bel Air.

Oh, I agree 100% personal tastes are developed from the culture you grew up in.
Take the Japanese...
Please!

But younger generations growing up with today's cars won't be that different all over as designs of different countries are all catering to the same, global market with eyes wide open for the Chinese market, so you're more or less have to live with a compromise that bends well over to China and this is already in full swing in pretty much all design centers.

I love those boattail Rivieras. I used to know a guy locally who had 2 of them, until he seemed to drop out of sight. He had a '71 that was just gorgeous. And a good friend of mine met his wife because in part she owned one of these, a '73, in the early 90s. He is a car nut with a love for this era of GM, and it was love at first sight.

61 fury

I just returned home from Tennessee with the 61 Fury. I drove it the 180 miles home with no issues, still a good adventure though.
Shes a diamond in the rough. Not much history on her but the odometer works and shows 41500 miles. The wear patterns on the high use surfaces make it beliavable, Theres still grain on the armrests.
Shes had one really lousy repaint, but is complete and most everything works. Nicely optioned with power brakes, steering, windows and top, radio & heater, all tinted glass, deluxe (aero) steering wheel, and front grille guard.
A pretty rare combo all in all.

A really serious cleanup will improve things but she needs a complete restro..... I can drive and enjoy her as is for awile.

So far, Stan, Virgil and I like her.

Any difference driving with a rectangular steering wheel? What motor is in it?

My god. Sorry fellas but that dash board is a complete and total disaster IMO...I know what they were thinking but just does not work for an auto dash board.
