1966 Polara

The all makes show I try to get to, St. Peter MN 9/20/2009 and here I am parked next to a Hemi powered GTX (previously called a Road Runner for those keeping score).

Great thread! I’m looking at a dual exh kit for my Monaco next year. How do the TTI outlet tips look on yours?
I having fun trying to find where all my pictures are stashed on my laptop! Here's the pics of the tips. They aren't the same distance out and the turn downs need to be rotated slightly.

Here's the rims I'll get if I can't find any 15" slots by the time I need replacement tires.

Laura's 2013 Charger SXT getting some maintenance with the Polara, the day before the Mopars in the Park show.

The neighbors must think the car is a POS, as I have the hood up frequently!

On 07/11/2017 this showed up. Laura wasn't too happy as I was supposed to focus on the Mercury. After I talked my way out of moving out, I pushed it as far to the side as I could and got back to work on the Merc. I said the car would be gone right away, two months later she was a bit more understanding about how long it took me. I didn't realize how many parts go into a car. She always wonders why I don't focus on a car for the entirety of the build. I'd never get them all done, as I'd miss parts for cheap, and that's how I can do this, I don't have free funds for my cars, who does? I think the fact I used all the interior calmed her down too.

IMG_20170712_112032.jpg

I really wanted to bring home the Polara 500 car, but I knew I had used up any and all free passes I had laying around.

Getting somewhere. It sucked pulling the interior out of the car, even though it felt awesome getting rid of that terrible front bench seat! It sucked, no support, even my back hurt after a
few miles.

Just finished! Now to hit the road and attend Mopars at the Slope!

The view I'd love to see every day!

I didn't drive the car much this past summer as it wasn't running right. Oil was getting lower without a noticeable leak, and I didn't drive that much for how low it was getting. In the pic with Laura's Charger, I was installing plug wires as I found a burnt one that eluded me for some time. Just before I put it in storage the pressure dropped and the engine started knocking. Getting the level helped, hut I swear I still hear noise. Gauge reads 75 psi all day long, but now I don't trust anything.

Sophie "helping" me take the interior out.

September came, and I was done with the parts car. I learned a lot about how my car goes together, I hope to remember some of it when I take my car apart this coming June (2018). I'm sure I'll remember as I go! We moved the shell out to Laura's son's house, where I'll remove the stub.

The recipient and the donor, together for one last picture.

I managed to sell the jack to @66MonacoWagon for his car (I'm glad I could help you out!) and the radio antenna went to @traintech55 who will also get a floor pan cut out and some spindles for a project he is working on.

I drove it to work some, but not as much as I hoped to. Especially when the battery is dead!

Felt kinda sad without the parts car here. Looks better though!

So the year came to an end pretty quickly after that. I was a little down in spirit after not getting the ignition squared away before having to put the car in storage. I know what is Rong and should be able to get it right. If their is any noise, the 440 I just picked up for my 72 W200 will get sourced for the Polara.

Fall photo shoot!

Then I tucked it in. Here it keeps the 72 W200 company, it's buried under more car parts! Poor vehicles, they get no respect, I tell ya.

IMG_20171020_181428.jpg

I put more parts on the Polara before I closed the door, mostly stuff off the white car, these vast expanses of steel make for great tables!

IMG_20171020_181417_1.jpg

So, until probably April, ugh, I have to wait for the weather gods to tease me. But I have the Dart, and I need to get that roadworthy so I have something to drive while rebuilding the Polara next year.

IMG_20171103_161942.jpg

It's in there somewhere.

April 2018 can't come soon enough...I already miss driving the cars. I can only hold parts on my lap for so long.

The dogs call dibs on the tires?

The way you are going, you'll need a barn just a little south of you for storage!

The car will be at Mopars in the Park next year, and then I'll tear it all apart. I'm scared, nervous, excited and bummed all at the same time, and the cars just sitting in storage! I think getting the Dart driving under it's own power, and much like the Medalist, stopping under it's own power, will be such a big deal for me. The car has never been given the love it needs, and the Polara has taken a lot meant for it. It will be surreal to take it for a drive, with power and brakes. I've never had both, I literally had to drive around the block to swing her back around (more fun than reverse). I've had the dart long enough that most of the pictures are, gulp, real pictures!

I also realized, I didn't take one picture with my phone of the Polara at any car shows this year! I think I did with my SLR Nikon, but I'll have to dig that out and check. Ok the show in Easton in August I took one. (That show rocked! Very laid back, super easy going and they even had a good spread of food! And I finally got to see some of the Mopars that hide around these parts. We tried to get they guy with the 69 Mod Top Cuda to bring the car, but he didn't. Some others were still at home, but it was cool to get to meet the players in my region. The 66 Charger is quite the car I've heard.) I just had fun at the shows I went to. Talking with people I know at the Park, and meeting owners I've never met at the others. It was a very relaxing year for me as a car show attendant. I still have yet to fill out any ballot, I just get lost in parts, or the story of a car. I do hunt down the Mopars, but any car has a story, and people love to tell their tale, and I love to listen.

I have the parts car coming next year, said front stub replacement, and if the Dart is on the road, a decision to make on a daily basis, as to which car will I drive to work. Bummer. Gotta take the fleet down to next to nothing to be able to have it all. Like that 70's craze, where they "tore" you down before they "built" you back up. Just hope the car remembers who it is!

Thanks for making the effort to post this thread. Really like those rims. Keystone Classics would look good as well.

They do look good, but I'm stuck on slots. I tried to purge every good thought about slots from my brain. Worked for a year or so, and, well, I have slots for all my rides, even if they will never be installed, I have them. Dart, check. Polara, check. 72 W200, double check, they might be magnesium but I doubt it.

They want stock.

I'm going to have to see the car in person before you switch those wheels. I love the fact your car is hot rodded, so goes against everything the car stands for! RWL and exhaust tips sticking out just too far, I'm in love. It's like a sibling to mine, okay it's not, but I still like it.

Pic I have of your car at the "Slope". It was great you could come out. Hopefully this year we'll have even more cars. Know a lot of local Mopars that didn't make it.

Here is the whole "show".

Got the car out when the snow finally melted, in late April!
IMG_20180424_081646.jpg

Fast forward to June, the car ran decent, but ended up dying just as I was leaving for a car show. Turned out to be a ballast resistor. The car runs much better now, and starts easier. Up til that point, I hadn't driven it much, or very far. I was working on my '66 Polara 500 I aquired, and when it wasn't done, I took this car to Mopars in the Park on Saturday 06/02/2018 and again on Sunday the 3rd. I didn't even take a picture of my car! But I had a fun time and put over 500 miles on the car that weekend. The 500 still wasn't running when time was running down for the Volo meeting. With a week to go, I decided that this car could, and would make the trip. Loaded it up with tires, tools, and parts, and made the show, and another the following day. It put a little more faith in my work I've done, and that the car isn't a pile of crap. I've spent the last few years making it better, but had to experience the improvements on a larger scale. Going cross country sounded like a good challenge, and it was very rewarding. I got to meet new people and make new friends. And seeing a bunch of Mopars didn't hurt one bit!

I locked up the rears and had a sticky drum, checked into it, and I have a leaky wheel cylinder, and possibly drums that have reached the end of their usefulness. Check the parts car for a spare(s), and time to install the cylinders that I have laying around.

Yeah, quick fix - at least for other folks - my local parts house wouldn't have any of the parts/pieces on hand. Hope yours are better down south.
