1967 Plymouth Fury 3 Hardtop

Commando , when i got the car it had a small block 727 in it. It had the floor shifter assembly but no console or actual shifter. The p/o told me he put a different trans tunnel in after he pulled the 4 speed out to accommodate the auto.

Well those are definitely some thick spring packs ... but I do not know how many full and half spings 440 C body springs had but I am curuious to know

Those of you with slab and Fusie 318, 383, 440, or 440 HP, and towing package springs what have you got?

Pass side:

Appears you have at least 8 springs and half springs ... looks like 9

At least 6 springs with a min of 2 - 3 half springs .. looks like 3 half springs

I am very doubtful of a SS spring on a C body .. doubtful that Ma ever produced such a thing even as a race parts upgrade item. I'm guessing this is a towing package spring set.

Here's an attempt at counting.

The half springs are on the front only .. see what I'm doing? Can you count them on your car? I can't count that well from the pics ;)

The half springs start at the u-bolts and go forward only .. I tried marking in several places but they are the same from the u bolt forward .. the bottom ones are shorter and shorter

The drivers side will have approx two less full and partial springs than the drivers side

Ok i see what your talking about . I will get some jack stands under it tomorrow and get a better look .

You are correct tallhair. The drivers side (top pic) has 6 full springs only. The passenger side (bottom pic) has 6 full springs and 2 half springs.

say what?

Someone did a good job of making super stock type springs out of the originals. They increased the front half rigidity by adding half's and not increasing ride height. The right (pas) side should have more full leaves than the left (drivers) side to increase its spring rate keeping the car from rolling onto the right rear, engine torques to the right under load axel torques to the left (right wheel goes up into body left goes down). I would keep them.

Another bonus, 3" drums on ny axle. 21/2 on the Fury. Are the 3's factory for a big block and the 2's factory for the small block? Also is it a direct swap for the brake booster? Ny has power assist and the fury doesnt.

Im thinking about doing the swap. According to 68plymouth383 the center pins are in different locations from ny to fury. C body bob syas its possible to move the center pins. Does this just in tail drilling a new whole for the guide pins or...?

I'll bet those are from a car with towing package, 440 HP engine, or a wagon. There is a reason they are heavier duty I just don't know what drives it on these cars. Do you have the fender tag on the NY?

Note the length of the u bolts and how much is left on the bracket .. would be less threads left if someone added half springs. Do the U bolts have the flattened radius on top? If so they are originals and points to this being a stock set up.

The drivers side actually has one partial spring, so 5 full and 1 shorter partial

As a whole the 440/Hemi springs are the same way on B bodies. Cars with the "hemi" springs actually do sit slightly higher, help control rear sway, and increase ride firmness, and the half springs are there to help reduce wheel hop/axle windup

What is the spring count on your Fury?

Well looking ar the fury's leaf springs, they are alot thinner and have 5 full leafs with no 1/2's. Also the ubolts from the ny are the flat top oe style. Heres a pic of the fender tag.

Tore the 413 down today. Everything look good, nice cross hatching in cylinders, bearings look good. Gonna order a MoPo hi flow oil pump . Just for good measure Im gonna replace the main bearing with full groove clevites and new rod bearings. Oh yea and to no suprise no MoPo cam like the seller promised....comp cam. So I'll be ordering a the 284 MoPo also. The original seller of the engine is not the guy i got the Newyorker from so theres no hard feelings there. As always buyer beware!

Well after pulling the rotating assembly and mulling it over, it would be nothing less than half *** if i didnt have the block tanked, new cam bearings and rings in. Im too old for 1/2 assedness! Its nice to live close enough to Mancinis to get my parts next day. To bad it will take a few to get the block back.

Its peace of mind. Id kick myself (and alot of other things) if i didnt and something failed. Weathers nice, ya see the the ole cars on the road and start getn the itch. I just wanna cruz!!
