Some years back, I purchased a voltage regulator from J.C. Whitney that upgraded the point type used with the grounded brush alternator with a solid state regulator. I have not been able to locate any of these improved style regulators now. Does anyone here know if any of that type are still available or do I need to convert over to a later style alternator and regulator like was used from 1970 and afterwards. The old original point type regulators I had were a pain and usually failed after a year or so.; the solid state one was a huge improvement. With the cover on, it looked identical to the point type.
Thanks for any info and Happy New Year to all.

Many replacement regulators for the old point type are electronic. I bought one from NAPA years back. Just look at the back. No coils, it's electronic.

I have *** Made in U.S.A. *** 1961 - 1969 Alternator Voltage Regulators, if you are interested….

P.M. me , as per forum rules , if you would like one —- they are not expensive…. Craig….

^^^ To have a lot of EVERYTHING ^^^ ,
It means two things :

# 1 ) It means that I am old fart !!! That’s okay ?!?!

# 2 ) I have spent a lot of $$$ through the “ yester years”to have an impressive inventory!!!! That’s VERY okay for all of us !!!!

Happy New Year Everyone !!!!

Yes, I think that the presence of 2 wire-wound resistors on the bottom of the regular indicates that it's electro-mechanical type, not electronic. Rock Auto regulators all seem to be electro-mechanical.

But I think this one on ebay is electronic:

Could very well be the same as what Summit is selling as P/N TFF-7524 (with Tuff Stuff label) for a few bucks less. And I'm fairly certain that the original regulators did have IGN and FLD in raised letters on the case.

Thanks guys for all the tips.

Craig, a friend of mine has an electronic type regulator for me so I'm good for now. I will keep you in mind as I'm sure I'll need more parts in the future. Thank you for your offer.

That is like the one I bought from J.C. Whitney years ago. It worked great, much better than the point type. Thanks for posting this.

Just make sure the electronic regulator has a solid ground to the firewall. A poor ground will cause overcharging and could cause damage or an electrical fire.

^^^ $ 64.99 for Chineseum ^^^
You just gave me a heart attack……
( I have for $ 30 , $ 45 , and $ 59 —- ALL *** U.S.A. *** )

At least I guess you got a FREE Egg Roll with your purchase…..

Seems like there is a member in here that sells the factory look-alike electronic regulators, on eBay?

Nah, he doesn't sell them anymore. Regitar C524 as per Mopar Man's post will work. I've got it on mine, seems to work acceptably, I haven't paid attention to the charging voltage though. I remember someone on a Studebaker forum (unfortunately seems like the link is dead now and I can't even get an archived copy) said that it overcharged a tad bit too high for his liking, but was otherwise built very well (hardly any heat = good indicator of well-designed electronics). He took off the cover and soldered in a 7 amp fuse, and a 2.6 kΩ resistor to drop the charging voltage from 14.8V to 14V, as per the below pic.

The result of this was that his alternator was much cooler, so may be worth looking into. Other than that, this seems to be great. Ideally you'd get one of Craig's ones, but if you can't...this is an option.
@John Reddie if you do get a chance, do you mind posting pics of the one you got from Craig? Curious to see what it looks like.
