1968 300 Magnum 500 wheels

Hello FCBO,

If I am getting 15" wheels to replace my 14's what is biggest size (width) and tire I can put on my 68 300 convertible and not have them rub? Also what backspacing should I get? Any help would be great!

Front wheels are 15"x7" with 225/70/15 and the rear are 15"x8" with 255/70/15. There are no rubbing issues, and the wheels are from Wheel Vintiques.

I believe the 255s are 28" tall and the 275/60/15s are 1" shorter and 1" wider. I have been told the 275/60s will clear but I haven't had one on any of my own '67-'68 Chryslers to be certain.

Backspacing

What backspacing do you use that has no rubbing under cornering conditions?

I believe the backspace was the same on the 7" and the 8" and the extra width was pushed to the outside.

I have whipped cookies on dry pavement with this car and had no rubbing issues, but haven't done anything comparable to a slalom coarse. Not sure if BF Goodrich makes a 60 series in the 255, but it would have less side flex with the reduced hieght. You may look into an add on swaybar for the rear, but it would likely be out of the question if you were going to run full length 3" exhaust.

I can bump my previous thread in the early C-body column on this car and add a few pictures and it may give you some possible insight on your '68 300s.

I would like to see some pictures of your cars, my first car was a '68 300 that I have had since I was 13.

Can you provide the factory backspacing and the backspacing that is required for 15x7 and 15x8 wheels for a 1968 300?
