1969 Imperial progress thread

You told me you were going to melt those down and make wedding rings or was it fake Rolex watches!!???

Glad you enjoy them. All but the tiny Imperial nameplate for the steering wheel I ordered when these were still available in the 1980s.
I was wondering why there is a 2/79 manufacturing date on the package of the trunk medallion.
They are truly in perfect condition!

Which is the one I sent you a few years back?

One of the Fender Eagles is the one I bought from you years ago! :)
The piece of cardboard from the box with your name and address is still attached!

Julian, Here's your car's twin for sale. Parts or start another one?

Other then stated by the owner over and over again it's a LeBaron, not a Crown. It's indeed Deep Plum but with white interior.
And, believe it or not, in worse condition then mine was.
I talked to the owner a while back and he wanted to put a 700hp motor in it and such goofy things. 2 Month later, it's up for sale again...
A story like most other Imperial project stories...

Here are more photos, including from the fender tag.

I would still buy it if there was not the expense of shipping it to germany. :( Poor car.

I started the preparation for Paint! First I roughened the CDC with 320 grit sandpaper and scotch brite pads. Then I started applying seam sealer to all the areas mentioned in the FSM. In addition to that I sealed all the welds that were done during the sheet metal repairs.

If I missed an important spot, please let me know!

And I got a sample of M9 Deep Plum from the painter. The mixture for it was still in his system!
It's hard to photograph, from every angle, it looks different. But I tried my best to capture the color.

It looks a little bit darker compared to a polished part of the inside of the original trunk lid, but I think the original paint is not covering very well there. I will have to polish the outside of the trunk lid and try again.
But even if the new paint is a little bit darker, I really like the color!

Thanks!

I used Teroson MS 9320 SF. It's marketed under the Loctite brand in the US I think.
It's pretty fluid and very workable with a brush.

fast story. In September of 1968 my dad bought the first 69 Crown four door sedan in the Chicago region. It was loaded up and triple black. When got the car home he found that the rear fender tips were unpainted. The Auto temp was inoperative and the entire trunk leaked water. My father (a dyed in the wool Imperial fanatic) bought some sealant, took the trunk apart and resealed it. I can still remember my waiting on hold for the divisional President. i told him about the problems. He apologized and suggested that the dealer could fix it under warranty. My dad, being a stubborn Italian, refused and drove the car for a year as it was. I told him "if I were you, I would get your money back along with your perfectly good 66 Le Baron and trade it on a Buick Electra Limited."

So. That "should" be it for Electroplating. The last of over 2000 Nuts, Bolts, smaller and bigger parts and all the other ferrus doodads!
