1969 Imperial progress thread

I have them all apart now. And I wasn't nice with the joints, Alan, but I had to save the middle bar. Otherwise, I would have never separated them.
The only one that's opposes is the pitman arm to the steering box. All my forks are too small for the steering box shaft...
I tried the 2 hammer method on the pitman arm also, but no success here. :(

You know they make a tool for those and no it is not a pickle fork.
Do you mean the one?

I was hoping not to have to buy another tool for this. But if I have to..

Tighten the jack bolt good, smack the end that drives it in, make sure the jack bolt is still very tight and then take a BIG hammer (referred by most as a BFH) and give a good sharp crack to the side of the tie rod opposite the tool. Repeat as needed.

If done correctly, the hole in the tie rod will distort just enough to let the tool pop the tie rod off.

Do you read about the Chinese fighter pilot who did a barrel roll around a U.S. fighter jet and missed him by feet yesterday??
I'd have crapped my pants, blown him out of the sky and probably have WW III erupt.

Actually, the Chinese J-11 (copy of the Russian SU-30 Flanker) did a barrel roll over a USN P-8 Poseidon, which is a maritime surveillance aircraft built by Boeing, on a 737 airframe. This is the eventual replacement for the P-3 Orion.

I guess I have to buy it...

I would prefer this one:

Or even this one:

But I can't find any of them in germany...

I tried several methods today with the tools I already have (and some unconventional), but with no success.

I thought I could use the box's own weight to beat the shaft out with a hammer, but no...

Doesn't move at all...

And because I had no success with the steering box, I continued with other stuff.

And I found the biggest rodent resort in the back of the right front seat, until now Oo
I immediately put on a protective suit, a gasmask and rubber gloves... Nasty ****..!

The double pickle fork HAS to work.
Vodka, pull out the heavy artillery and get a bigger sledgehammer.

With someone holding the two forks 180 degrees from each other, and the end of one fork on the concrete floor, haul off with that hammer with two hands and nail that other S.O.B. fork with all your might. Don't worry about the other guy if you miss on the first try. He'll heal eventually. That thing will pop.

I thought that was a picture of what you were using.

A pickle fork (or that tool in the picture) won't work with what you are doing. There's a straight spline you are dealing with, not a taper like the tie rods.

This thing should work, regarding to this video

As I mentioned, none of my forks fit. All three are too small. I would have to buy 2 new ones :/

That was one tough mo fo, I have only ever done one. I work at a facility where the maintenance department works on big pumps and motors, they had a pulley puller much like your last picture, it fell off on the first couple tries but I was able to win.

You might need to cut it off, either a cutoff wheel or a torch.
