1969 Imperial progress thread

As I said, that's awesome work your body did there but I'm not planing wo replace that much of the lower quarter! So, as ceebuddy mentioned before, it's probably easier to shape plane sheet metal! If this fails, I can still order these ebay quarters and cut out the parts I need.

So is there something special about that socket other than the size? If I have a 1-1/16" socket will it work, or do you need that special tool?

I have an impact socket that would fit by size, but apart from the not fitting length, it won't fit somehow. It's another shape as you can see on the ebay picture. (if this is the right socket!?!)

I think it looks a little like the ball joint socket?!

A 6pt 1 1/16 wont work on the oil sender, a 12pt 1 1/16 socket may work has to be deep well, or get the oil sender socket you had pictured. yes that is the right socket and it is special

The cars last owned was a repair shop owner and ad far as I know it could also be the one who buyed the car new. That's maybe the reason why it was so well maintained!?

Wow. So well maintained and then all of a sudden one day......
I want to know that story.

Ya, I wish I would know more about the history...

All I know is, that the name on the last registration matches the keytag I found in the car.

But I found nothing on the car that would explain why it was parked 32 years ago...

Why not call him? I'd assume that's him.
Or that possible relative found in the phone book as well:

I did a lot of googleing myself and found all these articles too. My search revealed that he is dead and his widow is in the 90s.

I'd give it a try, there's not much time left. I have the Habit to trace all my cars to the oldest owner possible to find out more, they never felt harassed, some wondered about the interest in this old stuff, most were pretty happy.

I once got the original license plates from 1957 by the second owner of one car I had and he insisted on paying the gas as I fulfilled his wish to see the car once again.
