Why cant I find one like this around here so I can get the heater box I want?

Anyone know if it would have just been a solid white car? That is what the tag shows but I wondered if some departments would paint them?

Yes to the paint question. The VSP (VT) have their own special trade-marked paint color they paint all of their new cars with, as well as collision and other repairs. It looks like a dark metallic forest green. They previously used green fenders and yellow doors/roof. It sure stood out.

As others have said, the engine size, number of doors and so on, while not 'typical' isn't unheard of. While many larger departments had a 'fleet' approach for patrol cars, they would also use the odd special order car. VSP did this for officers like Troop commanders and other high ranking officials. If it wasn't a patrol vehicle, there was no need for 4 doors, the larger displacement engine and so on. At least, back in the days of fiscal restraint.

OTOH, in the town where I grew up the police force had 2 patrol cars, plus one that Detective Columbo (no, really) used. The patrols were B&W LTDs while Columbo drove I think a '72 canary yellow BIG Mopar with a 440 and the split grill/hideaway headlights. Pretty funny for a town of 8500.

You have a really unique car there. Looks like you bought it right so even with transportation costs, you'll come out ahead. Good luck with it.

Well guys the eagle has landed. It is finally here from Oregon. Some good some bad on this one.

Good:
It runs like a top, starts up on the first turn and purrs like a kitten. Outside body is not too bad just back lower quarter drivers side and . It is a real cop car and seeing all the old holes for their stuff is cool like the old whip antenea they bondo shut. Has a suregrip rearend, most likely 3.23 based off counting spins. I got my H wheels off of it!! All glass is good except the windshield. Grille is great and bumpers not too bad. Seeing some old inspectors marks on the car. Great frame rails!

The bad:
NO Buildsheet!! Needs brake work. The rust. I knew it might be bad with the rubber floor mats but it needs full pans drivers and passenger and the rear footwells. Trunk is gone too as someone glued fiberglass down over the top of it. Not a #'s motor in it. Really minus the rust it is a very good car.

I was really torn on keeping this one as I would love a cop car, ESPECIALLY a 2 door! But I did not want a small block. If the rust issues had not been like they are in the pans I would keep it and drop in a 440. But I think the way she sits I just have too darn many projects and I would rather get my droptop polara's done. I keep promising Dave I will get his old vert painted and this one will only slow me down. So I think I might let her go. I have not fully decided yet as I know I will never see another 2 door police pursuit car but darn I don't need another metal project. :BangHead:

Here is my photobucket with alot of pics and it has some nice old inspection markings too:

Thanks for posting the photos and congrats. Too bad about the rust, but if there's a plus side, it's that you won't need to piece in chunks - a wholesale cut out and replacement is easier (said the guy with zero welding skills). I've done a lot of 'patching' over the years, though. Clearly someone was just trying to keep this car on the road a little longer by the looks of the blanket in the trunk.

I'm not a big fan of the newer bodies, but this one is just plain cool. Two doors takes away the tubby look the four doors have. And being an ex-police car makes it that much cooler. If I didn't have the '66 300 inbound I'd being thinking foolish thoughts right now. I probably have most of the electronics around here to outfit it.

Well guys after sleeping on it for 2 weeks to decide and not do it out of emotion I decided to list this one for sale and it is on ebay. I hate to do it but my brain took over and said "Hey dummy you have too many projects already". So it is up on there now if anyone here that had contacted me is interested. It started it at $200 and no reserve so let the market decide what it is worth. I think I will miss not seeing it on the road but I hate to put it to the end of the project line and watch a car that runs great right now sit for 10 years till I get to it and then not run at all. Hope a cop guy gets it and makes it what it should be!!

Agreed, and a certain '71 4-Door Hardtop that's sits forlornly has excellent interior and trunk/boot floors.....DSC03727.jpgDSC03728.jpgDSC03729.jpgDSC03730.jpg

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I have a PK21K9D motor in my '70 'Cuda and would love more information about it. The entire VIN is stamped on the block. Was that SOP for police cars? I've only seen the last few digits on most.
