1969 Plymouth Fury III

Have a chance to go and look at this 1969 Fury III tomorrow. What are yalls thoughts? Got a slight exhaust leak from the header not being secured fully, and the turn signals aren’t working. Runs, and drives, has had some body work currently done and owner states just surface rust near back window.

Also what would be a safe number to put on it? Original 318 and 727. Any help is greatly appreciated!

That is not surface rust on the rear window channel, it is going to have some holes in it. Check the lower quarters carefully, these cars leaked water into the trunk and that usually took out the trunk floor under the mat and at the bottom of the rear quarters. Any time you see fresh primer on the lower body, there will usually be bondo underneath. If it shows a lot of bondo, it is about a $750-$1k driver.

I'd was going to say bring your own tire & wheels and you can get it for 500 bucks as from the pics I think the tires & wheels are the best part.



No seriously look at the trunk and lower quarters, if the cancer is bad there it's just a plain jane 4dr parts car. It's a shame though as this rear window rot out has most likely been caused by a sloppy rear window R&R. When they piano wire, hot knife, or putty knife the broken glass out and scrape through the paint and don't primer up the channel, the water will rust the metal that is exposed by even the smallest nick and grow. The FSM is very explicit about this, take your time and do it right.
I've seen it happen on many windshield replacement jobs on vehicles 2 to 5 years old.

I agree but it will take some major $ to bring it back. I have a place at my back window much smaller than this car and I get some water in the trunk. Can only imagine how much gets in this one.

There is a green ragtop on FB marketplace. Same year. $3k I think. Has no pan or trunk rust to speak of. Needs a top and an engine.

The biggest question would be, do you have an extra 20K and the time to fix her up. Paint, interior, possible engine & electrical issues...that's a lot of work. And better take a look at more than just the trunk for rust. Check the floorboards too. This car does not look like anybody gave a sh_t about it for a long time.

Obviously a beater, get it for a great price and use it to look at something better. Trust me, you're going to be disappointed with this, I'd walk away. BIG money pit.

Unless your a top notch body man along with being top at all the rest of what's needed, I would (very ) low ball on this project pick up. Say $200-500. If the body is in this type of shape then the front end, brakes, and differential are in need of some love. which is money. I concur with the rest of the guy's that have posted Get it up on a lift and look under the car. Look for all the sins it maybe hiding.

i wouldn't pay more than $1000 for it, and that is only because the body looks solid (except rear window). if it doesn't work out, you can part it out and get your money back.

Since there was no response. This flash in the pan is probably long gone.

However..... seeing that your 23 years old.
Buy the car and make it drive reliably.
You dont need a magnet in your pocket to check for bondo.
Check under the carpet for the street.
Open the trunk and look for your feet.
Then make an offer.
The wheels and tires are worth 500 and the car is worth at least that. If you can drive away with a smile for 1200 you will never regret it.
Put some time and money into and sell it at a loss in the fall.
Or go buy a 15 year old subaru with a fart can for 4500.
