1970 440 Choke Cup Gasket

Apparently I need one for the 1970 intake manifold, but they are *gasp* $55!

Looks like a composite, like an exhaust manifold gasket, can I just make one or is this special? Without it, the whole inside chamber of the intake is exposed.

Any suggestions without spending 55 times what this thing is worth?

I don't know, but I'd sure try making one before spending that much on a tiny gasket.

That's cheap for the cup and gasket, you should see what some others are getting for it. I bought a manifold that needed those pieces and noted the previous owner had used a high heat silicone sealer instead of the gasket.

Thanks, I agree. I did read some where that it was asbestos and metal, but can't imagine it gets as much heat as an exhaust manifold.

Try touching one and see how hot it is. It burns the paint off the manifold there.

Make your own gasket. without a gasket the choke T-stat will be at the wrong height and won’t work right.

It was just Too easy they way it was 1969 and older.

What should I use for gasket material?

It is a '69 motor I'm "converting" to look like a '70 and the differences in some items are significant. Throttle linkage, Valve covers, air breather, RH exhaust manifold, and intake manifold are all different, I'm sure there is more.

I used high temp silicone sealer with the same cup on a 71 383...no problems

Have you checked leftover gasket kits? I just went out and looked - 3 different valve job kits, small and big block, all had gaskets left over. If you wanna pay postage I have some.
