Agreed. Most of the road wheels were chrome, so I doubt a rattle can paint job will last very long. Depending on if the tires were "new" ten years ago or recently, these wheels might still be a buy.

I am working on a set of these wheels I bought awhile ago they were on a car that sat in a field they were crusty.i used vinegar to soften all the crud then wire brushed them and finally a scotchbrite pad and got them to bare metal.
I stripped one to the chrome then cleaned them with metal polish.Still undecided whether to paint the middle argent or red the color if the wagon or chrome.i have the original centers (2) or 4 of the AMC style.

Thanks 300rag for your opinion i seen them on someone's car here but can't remember who's and liked the look.. My wife likes the chrome but wants to see them painted red to decide. I need to get a can of color matched paint made up @ a body supply house . I have a can for painting the inside of the spare tire well but it does not have any clear added i want a gloss color.

Wow, @crazyboutwagons those really look nice! The 300-H was the only one that came with non-argent centers. Not exactly body color but a color used on the body, LOL.

Had that from '03 to '06, when the current one came along. That one went on a Rte 66 tour from Las Vegas NM to the coast in '04

RT-66 tour is on my wife's bucket list.Me I just a bit afraid to take the wagon that far .We took a small drive on a portion of it a few years ago when we were in Arizonia we rented a Mustang convertible .
