1970 Fury GT found in Amarillo, TX.

Buy a new trunklock , take a screw machine with you and drill the old one out.......
Maybe you,ll find some other great parts in the trunk....

That's what I'm hoping. The inner door panels were redone or replaced at some point. Seats were also recovered and the little trim bits not included. Would be nice if they were all stashed in the trunk. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks for the information Eric. I used to live fairly near El Sereno, in Sierra Madre, since I was a kid. My parents moved From Detroit to California when I was only one year old. I would like to see some photos of the interior when you get a chance. It would be great to see your car in person, as it seems the odometer might not have gone around once already from what I am looking at. It would be great to have you visit when you get some time, as there is a lot to see out here, more than you will be expecting!

Steve

Sounds good Steve, will be in touch. By the way, unfortunately the person that repainted the car for the previous owner also reupholstered the seats and inner door panels incorrectly. Also the dash pad was redone incorrectly. Looks ok, but not correct. The rear panels next to the back seat are original and correct. Hoping to find some original parts in the trunk. Can't wait to get that open!

For sure, when you drop by we can talk about how to get your interior all original again and correct. That is all doable. Also, before drilling out the lock, you could also take out the back seat and if you are not a really big guy, you might be able to crawl through the area behind the seat and get to the lock mechanism and turn it to open the trunk (maybe with some pliers). That way nothing gets messed up on the decklid opening. Kind of depends on how much stuff is in the trunk. Good luck.

Pulling the back seat is the way I'm going to go. I think I'll be able to reach with some pliers.

Even if it wasn't a GT finding a Sport Fury is almost impossible, let alone one in a cool color like FK3 ( Plymouth only) .

This will have the C body guys yammering for a while ....

Great car

Nice score!
Was for sale about 4 years ago I think, I have some pictures from back then, and did have the taillight lenses on them for sure!

Congrats on your score!

Welcome! Nice surprise, I was wondering how we all missed this one, especially if there was already a thread. What's up with the tail lenses and the wiring? Was it in process of being redone by the previous owner before he died? Double jealous, BTW, you scored a SFGT and an invite to Steve's stash.

:D

Wow, well done! Awesome car and I can't wait to see where you take her. Have a safe journey!

Remove rear seat. Use a 1/2 socket and multiple extentions. Tape them together. Unbolt latch from decklid. Remove lock cylinder and any decent locksmith can make you a key under $20. That's exactly what I did on the last car I purchased with no keys (similar process for ign. key). No destruction.

The car I did it to had two POOL LINERS in boxes, in the trunk. I was able to pull them through and get at the latch.

Doesn't Legendary refurb door panels and the dash pad for Fusies?

I just reach through and use a screwdriver to turn the latch

As long as everything is in place, you can't turn it with a screwdriver. You either damage linkage and such, or unbolt the latch. Took me about 2 mins after I removed the pool liners.

Tail lenses are stuck in the trunk at the moment. Hope to have them out today after I pull the back seat. The wiring is a bit of a mystery. I put in new headlight and taillight bulbs because they were all blown out. Turn the light switch on and get nothing. Turn the car on, and they come on, but as soon as I rev the engine, all the bulbs blow up. Did some tests and it looks like the alternator isn't charging the battery at all, it instead is running direct to all the wiring in the car with no regulation. We changed the voltage regulator and that made no difference. Found some melted wires under and back up in the dash. Also found a lot of hacked and spliced in mystery wires.
