My position is not some much about redlining it to the finish line in as much as having the "oomph" muscle to get things moving relatively quickly.

Sorry, I've been in many 318 cars (they certainly don't have oomph), a 340 car (HELL of a screamer as the rpms came up, but again no "oomph" downstairs....you don't want to neutral drop it), but never a 360. Since the 360 is based on the same LA block I really don't see why it would be any much difference (larger bore but same stroke as the little 318?).

Any big block motor 383 and up will have more stroke (= torque) to push the same size big car off. That's not dissing small blocks, just stating a fact.

I won't argue with you there. The 400 definitely had more lower grunt, and would beat it off the line. But once going the 360 had no problem keeping up.

There was a guy I met up north at some of the local car show's. He had a '68 300 convertable, with a 440 six pack under the hood. The car was absolutley beautiful! He is over on the dry dock once and a while. Anywhase he had told us of all the mods he had done to the car, and what not. One day he took a couple freinds, and I to his house to see some of his other toy's. Truthfully I was not really impressed at the power of the car. Granted there were 4 big guy's in the car, it just seemed like the car should have more for what was done to it. Definitely no slouch though..

I have to see if I can find pictures of the car somewhere.. I know there is some pics out on the internet.

What the hell, Im getting in on this to! lol

scan0013.jpg This car happened to that one. With my parents being separated and me thinking I was going to rule the world with minimum wage jobs I could barely afford one nor did I have a place to keep them. I wanted a convertible, this one had already blew its 383 and It didnt take long for me to blow the 400 that was in it. So I had a choice and I made it, I pulled the 440 out of the polara and the wheels came off and I scrapped the car...........I'm a big dummy.

Eventually I blew the rear in the Fury and had a 3:73 sure grip installed. That was the quickest car I ever drove and at 4 miles to the gallon I didnt keep it long, thats where my 72 Challenger came in at...

Actually a 383/400 has a smaller stroke than a 360. 3.38 vs the 3.58 of the 360. The thing that helps with the low-end is the smaller valves in the 360 and stroke of the 360. The big block has a more aggressive camshaft, larger bore, and larger valves.

I stand corrected, you are right. There is the slimmest hair of a difference between the stroke of the 360 engine and 383/400. I guess the 360 is the "odd ball" among its LA brethren. Still doesn't matter.

Very nice!

well, since Polara threw his ENTIRE car(S) in.....

Yes, I know, I know.....the cheap *** lens repair. I had to use that to keep the fuzz from hassling me. I eventually found another one.........in Texas. Oh, that's the beast...and I do mean beast. That Cuda got quite a surprise on rt.322 headed towards Glassboro......Polara you know where that's at......long stretch crosses over rt.55.

I LOVE the unassuming, sleeper look.

Admittedly I like this way also. Yous guys are crazy and this is lots of fun after a long day....helps to loosen up a little. There are a few folks here however that will get their pantie up in a bunch if you deviate from the topic by one word.....

I love 400's and 440's, I hate my 383. That 360 was amazing, so was my 340 that I had in that 4 door polara, pulled that from a 1970 340 duster 3 speed.
