Someone save this

Mod top or paisley?

Seller's description

1971 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron. Rare factory ModTop, with NOS ModTop replacement vinyl. 440 big block that runs strong. 727 transmission that shifts smooth and firm. New gas tank. Very little rust. Needs brake booster replaced or rebuilt, fuel pump (it works, but pumping fuel into crankcase) needs carburetor rebuilt. 2 instrument clusters with main harness. No rips, holes or tears in the interior. Headlight motor and doors work. I have some original historical paperwork for the vehicle. A real survivor of a car that has a ton of potential. Will need to be towed or trailered. $ 2500.

Is it one of those burgandy tops that has faded back to the original paisley top that was dyed over?

Josh this is @Clover ‘an explanation.
Paisley and it wasn’t supposed to show. If he has mod top material, it’s not right for the car. Last year for mod tops was ‘70. The maroon car was a special edition, with a maroon top that quickly faded, to expose the paisley pattern underneath. It didn’t show when they were new.

I hope the derby crowd doesn’t get this one. It needs to be saved.

At that price it will likely be cannibalized for its running gear and the rest parted out, or parted out and then smashed. And before someone comes back with the old 'buy it then' comment, give it a rest, I'm allowed an opinion.

Looks very interesting, yet for more than a week I’ll be still in Vietnam, and for some reason my stubborn Marketplace is set to Paris, France and it can’t be changed. Yes, I’m from Warsaw, Poland…

This LeBaron is a rare GM8 "Sparkling Burgundy" which is an Imperial-only, one-year-only color. Other than the dash face, it seems in surprisingly good shape. Even the rim blow wheel seems intact. @nitoh owns one of those in Germany and may be interested.

sparkling burgundy was the 2nd most popular 71 imperial colour, behind #1 honeydew and ahead of #3 tahitian walnut

Hi guys, I happen to be the proud, new owner/caretaker of this beautiful, rare mopar. Y'all can rest assured that it will NEVER be robbed of it's drivetrain/parted out, or derbied. My intention is to restore it back to as close to original as possible, or within reason. I doubt I'll actually use that NOS top material. What's gonna stop it from fading like they all did when new? I wouldn't be able to take it to shows, or even drive it on nice days. I don't want it to be a garage queen either. But anyway, first, we are gonna put a new carburetor and water pump on it, and change oil, then see how it runs.

Congrats! I’d use the top if it were mine. Keep us posted on your progress.

Congrats @collector brose ! Do you have any info about YM43T1C111774 's history?
Yeah, the seller gave me some old registration papers, along with full, original owners manual contents. He told me the car was sold new right there in Union City, and had been a local car it's whole life, as evidenced by the Chrysler dealership bumper sticker still on the rear bumper.

I for one am very glad this car is going to be brought back to glory.
If the vinyl top material is the correct non faded dyed burgandy material I personally would keep it safe and out of the sun. That specific NOS top material has to be one of the rarest items to find on the market.
Purchase a reproduction vinyl top in the correct color and install that without worrying about fading.

Can't wait to see more pictures of the car and hear a little more about it.
@collector brose are you going to start a detail or restoration thread on your new purchase?

Nice bunch of original paperwork too! That is incredible to get that with the car.
