Certainly sets the bar for any C body restoration. Paul is a master at his craft and deserves all the accolades he's recieved. Will we get to see this masterpiece at Carlisle?
 
What company made the vinyl top and how long did it take to get it?

I ordered a vinyl top for my 78 NYB from SMS Autofabrics a couple of weeks ago and I hope the cut and fit is as good as the quality of yours. The wait (4-5 weeks) is killing me!

Actually all my interior and vynal are from SMS as well....waitin and thier customer service sucks...takes awhile for them to respond sometimes but they do respond.....still waiting for a 400$ refund from them and has been awhile...if l see nada by Monday am gona turn Visa lose.on them...point being watch yer pennies and nail down your prices
All this aside vynal top turned out 110% perfect...am hopeing headliner and seats are the same .....the gold vynal seats and green tinted windows with that gold top....well bottom line is lm gona need a bib soon.....

Honestly would like to see car make it to Carlisle being that this years C body comemorateion but with my border issues is not possible at this time and Paul is on other side of country...know there's a big show in Ontario Canada l may try to make...only set stuff lm gona do is next winters World of Wheels car show in Calgary and Winnipeg...if they let me in....who knows things can change fast....never say never
 
Man that top went on perfectly, it sure helps to have a couple guys who know what they are doing! I chuckled over the spelling of Brougham, I never really noticed there was a "u" in there. :confused: Must be French! :D

I'm actually enjoying following the progress on your build a little bit more than my own build. I guess the big difference is I don't have to pay for yours!

Great job on the top but this is the first upholsterer I've seen that uses a pressure pot to spray the glue. How the hell does he keep the lines clean? It's hard enough to keep a regular siphon gun clean. The entire job looks absolutely fantastic!

k....for our bushing issues have had these made up by one of Pauls "Guys" on cnc and should work nicely











then there was the issue of gaskets....Directly from FSM








any metal to metal contact will flex and chip or crack paint

Don't take this the wrong way, but it would be hard for me to poke holes for that Brougham emblem. Don't get me wrong, I love Broughaminess as much as Ricardo Montabahn, but I hate that somebody 45 years ago OK'd that emblem on SPORTy Furies. At least it's pretty small.

I have the same issues with the side moldings used on '69 Imperials. I've thought about finishing the car without them (grinding off the tabs, etc.) and then putting some of those super-magnets on the back of the moldings just for shows.

That's been a concern of mine....Paul woulda wrung my neck if he coulda got ahold of me when l asked about mud flaps lol....was a set on car that were passable but belive Paul buryed them in the back 40
Definitely won't b doing any gravel back roads...like the magnet idea and those trunks are big enough to store them....
Beilive lve painted myself literally into the proverbial corner with this car....Damed if l do damed if l don't
As for the Brought emblem....he'll l couldn't even get the spelling right till few days ago :realcrazy:...to me it was just part of car and kinda looked at it as a rs/ss type deal....and like the hursts, the ss/rs seem to be everywhere all of a sudden...
beilive one went for big bucks at one of the auctions and everything got stupid after that

I've seen people use those giant paper clip things to hold on mudflaps if they drive to a show...

Hell ...l use those on a lot a things....even used the big ones for tarps at work....seen some one here other day doing some fitting of material for a convertible boot...they woulda been handy for that ....l buy them at stapples by the dozen

I was hoping you would find a source for those rubber bushings to retain the torsion quiet ride so demanded by the Brougham package. But what you lose in quiet will likely be offset by more rigidity and slightly better handling.

Regarding the gasket for the quarter extension, all I can say is that on my 70-71 C bodies, all my endcaps have a form of seam sealer on them rather than a formed gasket. Maybe an assembly plant running change?
 
Mud flaps - you've got to be kidding! Maybe get one of those Saskatchewan full width flaps across the rear end to catch falling parts!

Your aluminium bushings, being aluminium will crush over time and will expand/shrink with temp. As such they will loosen with use and probably start to make funny noises like urethane bushings. Might be worth adding a rubber gasket or two to control any lateral movement and noise.
 
Do we know of any other Sport Fury GT Broughams? This is the only one that comes to mind...and I applaud the preservation of the Brougham package. And I'd probably do mud flaps to protect that paint.

I used to own a 1970 Sport Fury Brougham, fully optioned, even with AutoTemp 1. But last year, Bob Baker had to have it, so I sold it to him cheap in light of all the reproductions he is doing for our cars. It had an exclusive interior too. B5 blue with the good top (C pillar). Not the ugly wide sail fin one. Nice roof like the one Derek has.
