Can't stand painted bumpers on these cars. They make the car look like all of today's cars with plastic bumpers. In fact I feel it makes the car more like everything on the road. Besides when was the last time I saw a 71 Polara on the road where I could say there goes another 71 Polara with chrome bumpers? Had to be at least 30 years ago and in my life will probably never see another. Chrome is just plain classy.
If it were mine, I would want the chrome back... but she is a very nice car... don't let personal preferences diminish the work done to her.

at my house, a front bench seat is mandatory fixins. buckets are so meh.
Gotta admit it; I wanted a console car SOOOOOO badly for so long. Now I'm realizing that bucket/console in a giant car w/o power windows is a PITA to put it mildly. Oh well, when I get my wagon one day ...

Hey Billy, Are you the guy mentioned in the MCL article that wouldn't sell Dan a Fury to drive in the winter? ;) I miss Dan. Are you sure he didn't just get bored with all the trash talk of his build & not come back?

Probably a little "editorial licence" on the refuse to sell quote. I sold him a 70 2 door pursuit car and remember telling him it deserves to be restored not used up as they are super rare. Once a car is sold/bought new owner gets to do whatever he wants with it.

By the way I really like the Polara. Not considering it because of painted bumpers, wheels, or a bench seat is like not considering a house because you dont like the color of the living room walls. It is so easy to change! No rust, perfect interior, good paint that's a different story. Your car is a V code 440 4 speed for crying out loud! The hard and expensive work is done. Good luck with your sale. I hope you get your asking prince or close to it!

Wow that is very sad hearing how we lost another good Mopar guy. My condolences to his family and friends.

As for the Polara, I think it is pretty cool and well done. While I would have not done all that work myself to that car....if the price was right I'd drive it for sure.

Some of you may or may not have noted Dan didn't just paint them. He shaved the bolts & welded the brackets to the bumpers so there are no bolt heads. He must have blasted them as well because they don't peel or show chrome. The Mopar Collectors Guide writers loved them because they look like rubber to some extent, part of the cars body. He def. didn't just paint over chrome like a school kid in a hurry.

Dan's build is awesome, for a custom car.

Like it or not, you have to respect it, and what went into building that car.

It's not easy to build a custom car and have the all details add up correctly. If you like chrome bumpers,...put chrome bumpers on,...easy to do.

I'd drive that car all day long........RIP dan!

And I was just thinking you and I never share similar opinions
I doubt we are usually so far apart... certainly not far enough to be worth worrying about. Pricing Formals seems to be the biggest hurdle when it comes to cars.

I always wondered how much a well built 440 six pack 4 speed setup would be worth by itself? I remember Dan telling me he had more in the car when he sold it to me. At the time it was my NEW car & I was just getting started here on the forum so I figured he was just saying what many sellers say but now I know he was like that: rather be doing a project than having a finished one. He personally delivered it to me because he wanted to make sure it got there safe & we talked cars for hours before heading north of VA to pick up a Roadrunner project he had in mind. I think he simply loved to better the world he lived in doing something he loved & was great at. It was time to go so another car could become better! If he really did get kicked out & I have my doubts about that is it too late to re-install him as a member in good standing?

It seems he was referring to me. When it comes to these cars, today, I am a by the book conservative. Messing around with them 40 years ago wouldn't register on my radar screen back then when they were abundant. Not so abundant today thereby making me quite conservative in their treatment and staying true to their original format and examples of their times.

Looked better before. I REALLY dislike the painted bumper look on this car.
Considering the overall price of the car, what's another 800+ bucks to strip and chrome it...
It's not like it has ATC II...
