Painted bumpers are not the end of the world and they can look good on some mopars. But Chrome on old cars is what kinda makes them Old cars and what gives them Charm. Try and find Chrome on a car today. (Not pseudo, plastic chrome either) These cars are cool because having contrast and attention to detail used to matter.

The car didn't sell on eBay but like I said early I'm quite ok w/that. I would miss my, as several nice people noted, one of the top 10 c-bodies in existence, the ultimate c-body, etc. At least it was bid close to what I paid for it 3 years ago. Now I am thinking of swapping the 440/6 into my 69 Superbee & putting a rebuilt 383 in its place. While there I can get the air cond fixed & make the car more comfortable to drive in summer. Its a bit TOO powerful for daily driving. I need to hear the general consensus of this group before I do anything so be honest. My first thought is I can no longer call it a Magazine car & would be modifying the car Dan States built. The 4 speed will stay, just an engine swap. Since the painted bumpers are so painful to some out there: buy & mail the chrome bumper listed on eBay & I will install it as well! ;)
Now don't confuse "not my style" or "I would prefer" statements with not appreciating the car. I do have to admit, I didn't spend as much time checking her out as I now wished I had last year. In my defense, first time at Carlisle was a bit overwhelming.
I don't expect to have the same point of view as many others, but as long as you don't make the car worse in some way, I don't think you can really go wrong if it meets your desires. Non-original engine replaced with a slightly tamer B/RB engine would drive as nice or maybe better in a cruiser... Either way, fix that A/C man
. I can't say the swap to a B body wouldn't cause me pause... but I don't own any B bodies at this time and I do see how the engine may be more in line with the spirit of the 'Bee. As to bumpers, if you trip over a good deal, grab them and let the next owner decide... otherwise track the ones you don't want to buy and let it be their investment if desired.

I would leave it as is. Removing the 440-6 takes the soul of the car and it becomes much more mundane, again.

The way it is built is why it is cool. A what if car with a lesser engine takes away from what it is, at least for me. If I was in the market for something like this I would pass on it with anything else between the fenders. Not knowing the story behind the car would be different, but I do know the story, and I like the way it was written, I don't think it needs a rewrite. Too powerful? That's a selling point to me.
