Ok, let's try this again...
1975 Dodge Monaco Station Wagon. 149k miles. Silver with blue vinyl interior. 400ci V8 with 727 HD Torqueflite. Basic wagon in stock condition, manual windows/mirrors/locks, WORKING power tailgate window, swing/fold tailgate, COLD air conditioning converted to R134a. Class III receiver hitch with trailer wiring receptacle.
I bought this wagon on impulse after seeing it at Mopar Carlisle this past July, and unfortunately have decided it's not my cup of tea. I purchased it from a retired mechanic in White Plains, NY, who bought it from the original owner in 1986. Still has the "White Plains Dodge" sticker on the tailgate. He used it to drive to antique automobile swap meets and kept it out of the weather, never driving the car in winter. I bought the car in July and drove it 260+ miles home from New York to Maryland in pouring rain. The car never missed a beat.
Mechanicals: The car has been very well maintained and is in good shape. Goes and stops very well and the engine and transmission are strong. No smoke or noticeable leaks, occasional whiff of hot oil that I believe is coming from a valve cover gasket. Biggest problem I have noticed is vague steering, which may indicate a need for adjustment to the steering box. Could use new shocks, but tires are good and include a brand new spare. No clunks or knocks. Comes with records back to 1986 and the factory shop manuals, as well as a box full of random spares.
Exterior: Body is solid with no rot, minor spots of surface rust here and there. Doors and tailgates all shut solidly and align well. The hood is slightly high at the right rear edge. Paint is fair to poor with lots of touch up and dings/dents/scars. Glass is excellent with newer windshield. Grille and headlight chrome is good and all trim pieces are there. Most weatherstripping is OK, tailgate seal is torn. All lights and signals work appropriately. Undercarriage and fenders were Waxoyled to prevent corrosion, and it worked!
Interior: Interior is in good shape with some localized fading of blue plastic trim. No rips in seats, one minor cigarette burn on front bench and two small punctures on rear of front bench. Interior lights work. Aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette with aux input and single dash speaker; original AM/FM works and is included. Speedo unit is a replacement, original is included. Dash indicator for right-hand turn signal works intermittently. AC/ventilation system works on all speeds and settings.
I imagine most other low-spec wagons like this were used hard and used up and are now Chinese filing cabinets. I've never seen another Monaco wagon, and it gets lots of attention and starts a lot of stoplight conversations. Could be a basis for a rat rod, or keep it the way it is and maintain it. I can't fit this thing in the garage and I won't be able to properly preserve it so I'd rather see it go to somebody who can take care of it appropriately.
