The previous owner had what looks like maybe an earlier w/ac alternator bracket (water pump housing to top of alternator)
That doesnt line up with the threaded hole in the head.
I'm finding a couple different types online some of which say they only fit early big blocks, but none that say they specifically fit a 76 with ac.
Anybody have any info or possibly a part number?
Thanks

It would be helpful if you posted some pictures of the bracket on the engine

Do you have a 100 amp alternator? Need an engine size too....different bracket for 400 and different bracket for a 440.

All Chrysler alternators are the same physical outside except for the big one which 99.9% certain your car should have, are you sure you have the right alternator check threads in engine and transmission section for pics of any mid seventies big block cars.

If you have the electric rear window defroster then you should have a 100 amp alternator. The 100 amp alternator is a big monster.

If ya think so I will post a pic after work but the bracket that is on it now is for sure wrong. The previous owner also tried to fix it by adding two relocated holes for the top of the alt to the head., neither of which is in the right spot...lol

If the alternator that is on there now looks like every Chrysler alt. you have ever seen it is probably wrong I don't have a pic of the right one maybe Bob does. This has to be the problem the 100amp one is taller or larger diameter more correctly.

Need a picture of the alternator too. Do you have the rear window defroster? There should be a switch on the dash for it to the left of the HVAC control.

I'm pretty sure it's the right alt. Regardless what doesn't line up is where on the top of the alt, the bolt goes through the bracket, through the ear on top of the alt then into the head. I guess a pic would explain better, but it's the pivot point and the alt itself has no effect on my problem.

No rear defrost.
to give you a better idea if I left the alt off and tried to put the bolt though the bracket it still won't thread into the head.

Pictures will help a lot. Won't be able to ID the alternator until then.

This is the from the front, you can see all the holes in the bracket and how the ear of the alt is broke from me trying to use the closest of the three holes to try and bolt everything up.

This is the same thing from the top.

This is from the top, with the alt pulled away, to show how, regardless of the alt, the bolt has no way to go straight when put through any of the three holes and threaded into the head..
Hopefully some one can tell me what im doing wrong or what part is wrong.
Thanks Guys

Could very well be true as what came with the car is all i have to go by.
I have to buy a new one anyway since the one ear broke.

And back to my original question, the bracket. What one would i need with which amp alt?
as you can see in the last pic with the alt pulled away, none of the three holes on the bracket give the bolt a chance to make a straight line and bolt in to the head, as far as i can tell this is the pivot point and has to be straight in order to have full adjustment for the alt belt.
