1976 newport 400 w/ac alternator bracket question

Go look up your car on rock auto .com and there will be pictures you want the big one with the fan on the front/outside the case. As soon as you see it you will see why yours is not working.

I see its bigger and that may fix part of the problem, but I still need help with the bracket. I don't want to get a big alt and still have the same problem with the bracket.
if yall think the big alt will bolt right up to what I have that would be great, but i would feel more comfortable if someone could touch a lil more on my bracket issue.
I'm going to try and take a video showing what I have going on as I don't think me or my pics are getting my problem across correctly.
Or at least maybe a video will give yall something to call me out on doing wrong....lol

I think I have on somewhere if I get a chance to measure across the bolt holes I'll post it then you can measure that amount and see that it will line up with one set of holes you have on that bracket, someone went drill crazy all those extra holes.

That's not a 100A bracket either.

This is the 100A alternator with it's correct bracketry.

Nice pic. I've searched big block mopar pics looking for my setup at the right angle and find almost nothing.
That's what I thought i remembered the 100a bracket setup looking like, but wasn't sure and couldn't find a pic myself.

I'm out, maybe I should go back to hunting slabs. I don't remember my Cordoba having a bracket that big.

The top bracket on your car is for a 69-74 big block with A/C and the alternator that you have on the car.

I can't see the lower, but it may be the same application. Search Mopar A/C alternator brackets on ebay to match it up.

So... You can find new brackets to go with the "correct" larger alternator or you can get a replacement for what you have (probably cheaper) and reuse the brackets you have.

Here's one like your existing top bracket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/69-74-Mopar...Parts_Accessories&hash=item58bab30e0c&vxp=mtr

So after looking at the top alt bracket on my engine I'm starting to think what I have is home made as it looks just like the one just posted only it doesn't have the thing in the middle for what I think is for the upper radiator hose, the edges don't look exactly factory cut and the top alt bolt hole is slightly in the wrong place. Like someone used a old or broken one as a template, cut it and just drilled one of the holes (the top alt bolt) in the wrong spot.
Does anyone have or is able to get any measurements for the distance between the three holes respectively in the top alt bracket for me to confirm this?

Another thought, is there any chance there is another bracket that goes behind the alt that the top bolt bolts to instead of directly to the head that I could be missing?

I went nuts once trying to figure out which way a certain compressor bracket went. Finally, I went to my parts book. There it was. A nicely detailed explosion.

I've got service manuals for the 76 newport it came out of and is going back in, skimmed through em but couldn't find anything that would help.
maybe I need to take a more detailed look.
is a parts book something different?
And do you have any links for one?

The Parts Book is separate from the Factory Service Manual.
I don't know if there is a .PDF out there or not. Anybody?

Alright I've got it now you have the right alt. and brackets you are missing a extension piece that bolts to the front of the pass side head to line up the bolt this is on a low deck 383/400 only not a 440 but allows the same brackets as the 440/RB I will try and get a pic from my Challenger when I get home but hard to see down in there.

That sounds like it could be what I'm looking for. Any idea for a part number or what exactly it's called so I could search for one?

They have the exact same kit I just posted for slightly cheaper.
Looks like i just need the one small pice behind the alt but I can't find it separately.
looks pretty easy to make one with a piece of metal drill bit and tap, or welding a nut to the back. I'll probably try that first as I don't intend on spending 125 on a whole kit.

Well eventually I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a whole new bracket setup as I'm sure the top front bracket I have is someone's home made creation,
but I've made a bracket for behind the alternator to match the location of the best of the three holes in the top front bracket and bolted everything together.
looks like it will do, even with one ear and multiple fins broke on the alt...lol, for getting the engine running after its put back in the car and moving the car around the yard for a while.
thanks for everyone's help.
