"The pistons were knurled" it was garbage to begin with.
Knurling of piston skirts and valve guides was somewhat common before many shops had boring bars and power hones in their "arsenal". It might not be as good as NEW pistons, BUT you know the piston weight is the same the rods and crank were balanced for, so running smooth as it did when new. Don't have to pay for boring either! Good rings and it's ready for many more miles. More than some of the "rebuilder" blocks I've known about.
When knurling the pistons was more popular, many people didn't drive over 10K miles/year and many of the cars didn't normally make it past 100K miles before wrecks or rust took over.
