this thing is wicked mint as it was shoved in storage before it even turned 4 and...they only drove 400 miles before that? some older person driving to the church down the street once a week?
That color combo looks nice IMO.

Here is a extremely a once in a lifetime chance to own a piece of classic Mopar history!! This car has been in storage since 1981 and is believed to have only 400 original miles. Though I can not document the miles through any Specific source besides the title and who has had the car stored for that many years, as well as if you know cars you can inspect the car And I feel you’ll come to the same conclusion! 1978 Chrysler New Yorker brougham loaded !! Is to be considered to be the last or one of the last 440 New Yorkers off the assembly line. As for the condition as you can see from the pics body is straight as an arrow. There are a couple of tiny chips but nothing major, The interior is as it was new nothing altered or touched everything is original and everything works. The engine and transmission perform flawlessly, although the next owner will probably want to do a tuneup as it has all the original wires and such exhaust is original and very nice sounds great.priced to sell at $12,900 I'm open to realistic offers

Looking at the pictures I'd believe the miles. Add says it runs but no mention of what was done during the 39 years in storage, (periodic starting/moving). I'd be concerned with dry/cracked/brittle seals as well as the usual fluids. Still, great car, good price.

I went back and skimmed through the (quite long) earlier thread. I think I remember reading a short story about this car in the 80's. Don't remember for sure as it was a LONG time ago, but I think it might have been in the newsletter for Mopar Muscle Club International. There was a poor black and white picture, and I think the article claimed this was the last one produced, bought by a collector, and (I might have this wrong) it still had plastic in the interior. I do remember the author joking about the owner's choice of cars to preserve, something along the lines of "why didn't he do this with a hemi Cuda"

I've seen this car in person at Carlisle. I'm pretty confident that the low miles are accurate. At that time it was still wearing it's original J-78 Firestone 721 tires. The car is very nice, but would benefit from a full go-over and thorough detailing, especially in the engine compartment. At least part of the time the car was stored it was in a somewhat damp garage. Any unprotected metal has surface rust on it. It wouldn't cost much money to get the car back close to 100%, just some time, a few cans of spray paint, and maybe have some hardware replated.


Here's an example. Rusty screws on the door latch. Easy fix. Remove and replace or replate.

At the current price, I think it's a decent deal considering that a low mile four door sold for 20 grand not too long ago. Also, this is the only car that we have come across that's the right combination of colors to match the car in the final C body photo.

If I recall correctly, wasn’t the asking price at Carlisle, Pa. $30,000 in 2019? It was in beautiful shape, lots of interest because of its condition, no interest because of the price.

I think at 12,900 it'll be in the hands of a professional flip-shop soon, they'll pay a little less, and we'll see it back out at the original prices that it didn't sell at.

Just for the record, the door sticker also says MDH 061413, so it is not the last C-body produced. The last one we know about is
CS23N8C183444 with MDH 062013.

That's true, but I thought that you, or maybe it was someone else said that the MDH wasn't gospel and could still be out of order. Granted, for this to be the last one, it would have to be quite a bit out of order, almost two weeks if I remember correctly. Is it possible that the final order of the cars got switched around near the end as different people battled for the last C body off the line?

Things would be so much simpler if Chrysler published the VIN of the last C body like they did for the last 1975 Imperial. By the way, do we know where that car is these days?

It's a shame that the press photo doesn't show a bit more of the last car. The gray car for sale in Mass. has an unusual for 1978 upper body pin stripe. In 1978 they moved the stripe on the New Yorker down to the lower body line. If we could see the stripe in the press photo, that would almost say for sure if it was the same car.

I also remember that the value of the MDH was challenged in determining these matters, by a slightly different date on the broadcast sheet:

CS23T8C182416, MDH 061610, BCP 06200927

The broadcast sheet date is Tuesday, June 20, the MDH date Friday, June 16. That needs to be explained, of course.

The door sticker has legal value as a Statement of Compliance, so you can't tinker around with it too much. Talking about legal, I find it criminal that the pic of the last assembled C-body isn't accompanied by a reference to the source. That is directed at the unknown person who first put it online.
