Interesting choice for an engine

This is an extremely clean 1978 Chrysler New Yorker that has been gone through totally. The following listed items are NEW!!! Tires, brakes, radiator, water pump, hoses, belts, AC compressor, starter, alternator, wires, plugs, carburetor, universal joints, shocks, and muffler. This is an excellent running car and is so comfortable, it feels like you are riding down the road on your leather couch. Call Bob at 707 829-3113 with any questions, 1051 Cunningham (google map) (yahoo map)

I'd still consider it.
BB 400's and 440's by then were almost a liability and they really didn't get you much more.

In 1978, 400's were the standard engine in Newport's and New Yorker's....except California. I don't know if the same applied to 1976 or 1977 cars either. In California in 1978, you couldn't get a 400.... only get a 360 or a 440 in a Newport or a New Yorker. I don't the reason why, maybe because the 400's didn't have an air pump in either Federal, Canadian, or California emission systems for that engine. The standard engine for a California Newport and New Yorker for 1978 was the 360 but did have the option to order the 440. Both required the N95 Emission Control System.

By comparison.....I'm talking about 1978 engines here...

E56 California 360 had 170 hp.
E85 California 440 had 185 hp.

E64 (not available in California) 400 had 190 hp.

185 HP 440 what great politicians we have had since 1972 not to mention the press that is where all this publc opinion crap comes and came from

By themselves, the hp figures can be a little misleading. I'd be worried if the torque figures were as close as the hp figures.

That's true & you need the torque to get going but you need some horsies to keep you going. 180 is pathetic for 440 cubes, just pathetic. I mean really, what's the point of using a big block when any 318 on the planet makes more power?

This is the part where Dave is supposed to make a derogatory comment about organized religion. ;)
