1978 NYB Preservation Project....Sort of

Just for the record, my 67 LeBaron has the elk, very padded, with the smaller formal rear window. The elk looks great. My 73 LeBaron and 78 NYB both have the Levant.
I would go with the elk. Nobody would ever know it didn't come stock. And actually the grain on the 73 and 78, which are original, actually looks more like a combination of both. Unless it's the angle of the picture, mine doesn't seem as grainy as the Levant in the picture.

One person in a million would know if you had the correct pattern on it or not.
My vinyl was dealer installed. I have no idea if the pattern is correct or not and I don't care. It's not even a factory color. And to date, nobody has ever said, Yuck, what a ucking fugly car you have because the top isn't factory correct.
If the color is right, use it.

I'm with Stan and the others.. Only the CREW and real CHRYSLER aficionados know the true grain style. Since you mentioned the car not being fully OEM anyway, as long as the COLOR is correct.. Then "Do it To it" I say.

Preliminary reports says the top is cut right and fits.

Further developments will be posted....

I'm with Big John on this WTF are they thinking they did not even go over or discuss this prior to you opening the box and then making a call. That's like ordering a chocolate 2 scoop sugar cone and getting a single scoop vanilla cake cone and no sprinkles then they the give you a 2 scoop butterscotch sugar cone with chocolate sprinkles. I'm glad those idiots don't work at my local ice cream shop, now I need a cone.

Sprinkles or Jimmies?

I'm going against the grain here, but I don't like the Levant. Looks very GM-y, although I know it's correct on some Mopars. For the $$$ you are paying, I'd want it done right. By this point the second incorrect top should just be free... then i'd probably live with it. Seriously, of what value is a second correct-but-uninstalled top? Will it to a grandkid for when it needs to be redone in 40 years?

This company seems like a real disaster.
