Thank you for the heads up. I'm wondering if it has Lean Burn issues or some other issues from being in storage for so long?

I don't think it would be "lean burn" issues. It appears from the engine compartment photo that this car has been converted from the lean burn to the MP electronic ignition system. The MP orange box is pretty clearly visible on the firewall of this car.

The orange box on the firewall is a EGR delay timer module as the '79 Cordoba I have has one on it. It definitely can look like an "Orange ECU" and that was my first thought too but, then I remembered my car.

The module itself:

Yup that's been mistaken for ECU's, VR you name it. The LB appears to be intact on this unit

Does seem to be missing battery insulator/washer resovoir though....hated those damn things

OK, I'll have to take your word for that since I don't remember that on my car (but I'm old and don't remember a lot of things) and I don't have any under hood photos from my car to look at either. Didn't take a lot of photos of my Magnum back then, it was just another daily driver, now I wish I had photos.

I do still have the factory service manuals for the car, so I guess I can look at those to educate myself on this EGR delay timer. Who knows, maybe I'll have another '79 one of these days and be a bit wiser (not Budwiser) thanks to you!

The red arrow looks like the EGR timer.
The blue arrow looks like an ECU.
The green arrow, no vacuum hose is hooked to the Lean Burn.

My car no longer has the lean burn hooked up btw. My point is I can't see an ECU on the Magnum. If you look again, when the conversion was done you'll see two ballast resistors on the above engine bay photo. :)

The pic with the arrows is Streetmachine's car, not the CL car.
I agree, I don't see an orange ECU on the CL Magnum, and the LB has a vac hose on it.
FWIW, I have heard that many LB issues are solved by running a dedicated ground to the aircleaner ECU.

As for the seller, if he's flipping it it's not a one-family-owned car any longer. :soapbox:
5500 on 6000 isn't a terrible offer to get from CL, and not making the car available to testdrive is unrealistic.
That car's a good deal at $6k if not hiding anything, but Magnum fans ain't growing on trees, either.

I offered him $4500. He wanted $5000. Called the next day and said deal at $4500. When it came time to drive car/hear it run, he was not available a second time. I think that is probable cause to be hiding something.

Even with some issues gotta be worth $4500 doesn't it. I agree it would be nice to hear it running and take it for a test drive, but if the rest of the car got a good review don't you just pull the trigger on that one?

As per Carmine, he said it looks like the last time it was registered was 16 years ago. In those ensuing years was the car started, driven? If that motor was not prepped properly from a long slumber he could have damaged it. So no, I would not pull the trigger without knowing how the mechanicals are. And at my offer price plus what is known that the car needs puts it at or over value. If there are some hidden expensive fixes(could very well be considering the hijinks)then when the time came to sell the car you are looking at taking a bath. Not that I am in it for making money, I am happy to break even on any car. Don't think that would happen with this one. And the ad is still up.......

I don't know what this car is worth, but I've seen a lot of folks with asking prices of $10k+ for 'survivor' late 70s cars like this one (and this is not a collector car), so IMHO 6000 isn't unreasonable.

I see I misinterpreted earlier that you offered '$500 less than he was seeking', I presumed 5500. But 4500 on 6000 is a 25% discount. I would view that as a lowball and would not be jumping thru hoops to make that sale, I would be waiting for a better offer. To me 4500 on that would be 'be here within the hour with cash and take it away immediately', not 'I want take an hour of your time to check it out further and drive it to make sure I'm not getting any surprises'.

Sorry, just my view from having sold vehicles on CL.

The '79 Cordoba I owned for two years had the E56 360, was a sweet running motor, especially when I dumper the Lean Burn for a Mopar Performance unit. Too bad the rest of the car was such a POS.
