I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share my limited experience anyway. Hope I'm not wasting anyone's time.
My '68 Newport had a set of 215/75R15 radials on it when I got it. The car wallowed all over the place, constantly bouncing and rebounding. Steering response was VERY sluggish and body roll in corners was truly frightening. As soon as I could, I bought a set of H78-15 whitewalls from Coker. That change alone fixed all my problems. Bias ply tires for daily use? Absolutely. All day. Front shocks were new when I got it and previous owner put air shocks on the rear (ugh....hate those things).
People can argue back & forth all they want about radials and whatnot but MY old car likes bias ply tires better......and I'm not inclined to argue with her. Looking back, I kinda think I should've gotten J or L78s instead due to the speedo inaccuracy I'm experiencing.
Just my 2 cents' worth.
