I have a '67 Fury with a '76 318. I am replacing the timing chain, sprockets and cover. I have it apart and noticed that there is no oil slinger. I seem to recall that when I replaced the chain on the old 318 years back, I thought it had a slinger installed. Is this something that was done away with on the newer 318 engines or should it have one? Thank you for any help here.

Don't worry about it not being there.
Never leaked oil without it, did it?
If you have a replacement slinger, then put one back in.
If not, lots of people forgot to put one in, or didn't wan't to.
Works with one, or without, as you have noted.

Thanks for your response. I ordered one and will put it in but not sure which way to install it. Does the dished in side face the cover or the engine? Appreciate the quick reply.

You will figure that one out real quick yourself, when you install the slinger onto the snout of the crankshaft, and the timing chain, and gear.

You don’t want it on backwards, makes metal real quick. It should not touch the chain, only the crank gear.
