I was checking out a 440 and got a pic of the stamp pad. It appears to be:
4T440T
23

Any help identifying is appreciated.

The pictured engine is a 1974 440 truck engine originally built at the Trenton Engine Plant, in Trenton Michigan, on February 3, 1974.

The engine has been modified some with an aluminum intake manifold. The water pump housing and timing cover have been off and painted, as well as the mounted accessory (power steering pump bracket?). The distributor hold-down has been painted blue. The valley pan end rail and bolts have been off and repainted, and the valley pan resealed or replaced. Plus the head and block surfaces have been dressed. Perhaps more.

Starting in 1974, the year code is 4T440, it goes up by one digit, ex. 5T440 for '75 until the production run stopped in '78. The lower numbers appear to be 2 73 which is the assembly date for the engine. Sales of big blocks cratered in '73 because of fuel shortages and higher prices. There should be a casting date on the block, usually forward of the starter to verify the date. This block has some light strikes on the pad so it is difficult to read. If the engine is in a '74 year car it is probably correct. There should be a VIN number stamped on the pan rail on the passenger side front of the block.

Thank you, both! The 440 is in a Dart I am looking at. May be putting the wagon up for sale.
