They used the Edelbrock on the '70 too, but there were cars sold with the cast iron six pack manifold later too. I believe that by 1971, they were all cast iron.

BTW, the cast iron six pack manifold is heavier than all hell.

I remember, not one to drop on one's foot.

The insulation as mentioned reduces noise AND doubles as a heat shield underneath the carb.
Even if you block the exhaust crossover,I would still wrap household insulation on tinfoil and put on top of the turkey pan.
I also paonted the non-sealing surfaces engine color .
FWIW,this is under my Edelbrock Performer intake.Note the crossover has been blocked and I use "The Right Stuff" by Permatex.

They were for noise reduction. What good would a heat insulator do when the heat riser pathway ran above the insulation?

Got the valley pan in with the heat riser block off.Want to bad of a job. Trying to get all the bolts back in for the intake took some doing. I am sure it was my technique or lack thereof and the blazing heat! Went for a 25min cruise and no leaks..... hope it helps.
